Bonnie turned and sprinted to where Meredith was waiting with her open wardrobe doors. The guard jumped at the sudden activity, fumbling with his keys as he tried to unlock the door. Bonnie slipped through into the passageway, and Meredith yanked the doors shut.

"Woohoo! Now thats how you outsmart an Englishman!" Meredith celebrated as she locked the doors and high-fived Bonnie. Bonnie had already grabbed a torch off the wall, and Meredith lead the way down the narrowish pathway.

They passed chalk drawings on the stone, all in different colours. Meredith and Bonnie felt alot safer in the tunnels, knowing how little people knew about them. So they slowed down after a while, and Bonnie hung the torch from a bracket so they could catch their breath.

"Do you remember whose colour was whose?" Bonnie asked.

"I was always the purple chalk, and Kenneth usually chose red or orange. I think you were pink, occasionally blue.... but Lachlan sometimes wanted the blue as well as the green!" Meredith replied, recalling memories of the colourful chalk bucket. Meredith laughed, and the sound was so beautiful to hear. It echoe back to the girls, and for a while they just listened to the laugh bounce around the tunnels.

Meredith's laugh faded away, leaving pure silence.

"Bonnie, shouldn't the tunnels be quieter than this?" Meredith asked quietly. Meredith had picked up something Bonnie had not - the distant sound of footprints.

"Yes, yes it should if we are the only ones in here...." Bonnie whispered back. The girls froze immediately as the echoes came closer. Bonnie edged along the wall, slipping into a small crevice that was always her hiding place when they were younger. Meredith followed her lead, looking for somewhere to hide. Once Meredith had tucked herself away under some old potato sacks, the girls heard the echoes getting louder.

All of a sudden, a cry of alarm could be heard sharp and clear from not far away. Quickly following were the sounds of a person or maybe more falling to the ground.

"That was Lachlan!!! Meredith that was Lachlan I know it!!" Bonnie scrambled out of her hiding place and hurried for the torch. Meredith jumped up as well, trying to make sense of the many echoes. Hearing it over and over again made it sound ever so painful!

"Bonnie! The loose stone path is just ahead! Be careful! " Meredith called.

Bonnie jumped swiftly from stone to stone, knowing off by heart which ones were loose. Meredith followed, also without needing to think about it.

Bonnie slowed as she rounded a corner, quiet as a mouse. The girls had made next to no sound as they were running, because Meredith had had the thought to put on soft shoes before they left her wardrobe. Meredith caught up, as she needed the torch light. The sight they saw next was not what they expected!
