I sat down in my seat, way in the back at a completely empty group. I'm not sure if it was because my grades were so high that the teachers didn't think I needed to sit up in the front, or be with a group to get an A or even just because my last name, Zeshow, was always the last, last name in the class. But whatever the reason I didn't really care, I didn't like sitting upfront anyway.
In every single class I had there was the only empty seat, I had the only empty locker in my grade next to mine. And the girl, who left, left the only vacancy in this grade. The new kid would probably end up by me everywhere. I just hoped he wouldn't be bad company.
I looked over at the desk next to mine; a black binder covered with scratch marks was sitting on it. No one was sitting there though. I looked closer at the scratch marks; they looked like they were scratched in a name...More like numbers.
I could make out a... one or a seven, and either an eight or a six, and a really messed up four.
I looked up...And there he was. He had sharp green eyes, a pale complexion, hard features, and an obvious glare that he did not like me by the looks of it. He was gorgeous. Odd to say all this considering the look lasted only a moment.
His jet black hair was long to his neck; some of it was covering his eyes. My heart rate accelerated as he sat, I could feel my face go hot instantly as the red cascaded its way across my cheeks. Everyone stared at him and quickly looked away. I kept looking, feeling like something...Something dangerous...Was in my presence....Maybe I was right. Or maybe, just maybe, I was reading too much vampire stories than my sense of sanity could handle. I chuckled a little at the thought.
I looked at the front of the room where the teacher was talking of magnitude versus latitude. I really didn't understand how the two related to each other but I did the best I could to make sense of it.
"The more powerful a magnet the longer it will stay on a latitude surface. The longer an object is hanging on a latitude surface proves the strength of the magnet within the latitude object." The science teacher went on. He's basically talking about a magnet on a refrigerator. I thought lamely.
I got bored and started drawing pictures all over the back of my notes paper. I wasn't really drawing pictures but more of scribbles instead...I wasn't really looking at my paper at all.
I glanced over at the new kid who was peering over at my paper. I looked down at my Masterpiece and was not surprised at what had caught his attention. I had drawn a crescent moon inside of a scribbly heart. I looked back up at him and his attention was clearly focused on the teacher as if he was looking there the whole time. My mind became blank.
I flipped the paper back over, and paid attention to class.
I peeped once at the new kid for no reason at all, just curious. His skin was not so pale in the classroom lighting. Of course with my vast knowledge of fantasy and horror books –that I'm addicted to- I just thought what type of creature he would be. I do that with all my friends, I saw a monster in everyone. Well not them, just I can make monster faces out of their features.
With Scott I saw a handsome elf, with Paola I saw a beautiful witch, and with me I saw a vampire because of my pale skin and oddly big bright eyes. I saw the new boy as a vampire as well with his sharp green eyes, black hair, pale white skin, and shadows under his eyes. He looked extremely tired, but not enough to fall asleep in class I saw.
I glanced back down at my paper and it was flipped on its back with a carefully written word on it. Vampire. The new boy was staring at my paper with such intensity his fists were shaking. My vision faded at the edges a little and I blinked roughly. I looked down at my paper and my notes were sitting there, the word and drawings were gone. Just notes, as if I had never drawn or scribbled on it at all.
I wasn't even trying to make the action but absent mindedly I stood, my chair making that awful squeak and screech noise that caught everyone's attention. I froze and grasped my pencil tightly and walked off to the pencil sharpener, as if I really needed to. My muscles felt tight and ready to spring as if someone had punched me in the stomach and I was ready to attack. I quickly sharpened my pencil and sat back down.
I looked at the boy. His eyes were a sharper green with piercing pupils. His hair was brushed away and he looked frustrated, but somehow his face showed no emotion whatsoever. It was hard to explain. I could tell by the way the atmosphere around us that he was trying to give me a "You crossed the line" expression. I kept my head down my insides felt tight, and I began to breath shallower. I tried my best to keep calm and cool. I just didn't understand.
What just happened to me?
