I... Get Arrested. *sigh*

We walked through the marketplace at dawn, the stars fleeing like soldiers across the sky. The early risers walked among us. The sun had just begun to rise, and people were already awake! It made me feel bad that people had to get up this early just to get food and water. The girl walked close to me, as if afraid someone would attack us. She knew more about the city than I did, she would know, but I tried to reassure her. "Hey, it's okay. Nobody is mean enough to jump out at us. You're fine." She smiled, but pointed to the faces around us. The people we passed gave us nasty glares. I got the message, loud and clear: 'Go away, you aren't welcome here.' I gulped and gave the girl my hand to hold. She took it without hesitation. We were both terrified. A boy reached up to touch me, but his mother pulled him away.
"It's okay." I told him. "We won't hurt you." I winked at him. He smiled and I kneeled down, just about to carry on the conversation when the girl gasped and I was tackled from behind! I heard the laughter and jeers of the crowd behind me.
I rolled over and started to sit up when I felt a sharp blow to my jawline. I bit my tongue and tasted something metallic in my mouth. I tried again to stand up but was kicked in the ribs. I was kicked a third time. I heard one of my ribs crack. It hurt to breathe, but I couldn't surrender. Not yet.
The person kicking me shouted things about being a no-good Guardian as well as things the author would kill me for putting here. Just imagine the worst thing anyone can say to you, along with physical pain pretty much everywhere, and it was about double that. I was just about to black out from pain and exhaustion when all of the laughing stopped. I heard feet shuffling around me.
"Stop. Now." A voice growled. I risked a peek upwards and saw a pair of feet. A girl a few years younger than me stood there. She looked to be about 12, but she had black rings around her eyes, making her look older. She had mocha skin and fiery orange hair and eyes. She seemed very determined. I pitied any man who stood between her and her goals.
"Ooooh! The priestess is going to show me who's boss!" The man exclaimed. Another kick, this time to the head. I vaguely heard the little girl gasp. It must've been pretty loud for her to hear it. "There's the girl he had with him!" He shouted.
"Run!" I shouted. She nodded and took off, leading the angry people down an alley. "Be careful!" I shouted. I tried to get up, but flinched and cried out. I was dizzy and light-headed, not to mention covered with dirt, blood, and sweat. I could hardly breathe. I'm like a god from Greek mythology. I can't die, but injuries are fair game.
"I found his accomplice." A man's voice said. He captured my friend. She had scrapes on her legs and hands.
"Thank you." The girl said. "Please, be careful." The man looked shocked and started to chastise her, but she held up her hand to silence him. "These are my citizens, Guardian or otherwise. It is my duty to look after all people. Including these." She said gesturing. She knelt down. "Are you alright?" She touched my rib where it had cracked. I recoiled, hissing. "I wouldn't allow his words to harm you," she said, gingerly helping me stand up. "He's a coward, anyway. Come. You must go to prison by law, but it'll be okay. I'll at least help you get there."
I was too weak to argue. "Come on." I said to the girl, and she followed.
Later, a guard came and took us immediately to a cell holding every type of criminal in the books. When our legs were chained to the wall, I attacked the man. While the guard wasn't prepared, he was well trained. He quickly got the upper hand. He shoved me backward and I banged my head on the wall. "Heh. Pathetic Guardian." He said before knocking me out. The last thing I saw was the little girl try fruitlessly to scream for help.
