The temple was made almost out of Quartz with wooden accents decorating the windows. A picture of all four gods hung in the middle of the room.
Priestess Yara turned to me. "Don't worry. Nobody, not even the gods, can harm you here."
"Really?"
"Yes. They're honor-bound to protect anyone who seeks refuge here. So, go ahead. Choose. Nobody will prosecute you for your choice." She urged me forward.
I gazed at the pictures. I didn't know who I would choose to follow, but Jet was out of the question. Gee, I wonder why.
Kimura wasn't a bad leader, but she was hot tempered, and sometimes pushed people past their limits. I'd seen countless warriors who thought they were hot shots because Kimura fired them up, only to see them become scorch marks on castle walls.
Terro, the god of earth, was probably my best bet, but he did this rigorous workout routine called IV training. I don't know how many people know this, but IV training only works in Pokémon. So, he either doesn't know this, or thinks his army is a bunch of all powerful animals that he can just carry around with him. Neither option is all that great.
The final goddess had the element of water. Her name was Coral. Outside of holidays, I'd seen her a grand total of, like, twice. Honestly, I didn't mind, though. She was too pretty for her own good. Her outfits were always super skintight. In the picture, she wore her usual attire. Her usual attire was anything but usual, though. She wore a wetsuit with a raindrop cut out of it, which extended from her neck and ended at her belly button. That isn't all, though. Her behavior was odd, too. She did this thing where she would insult me, and then wink like if she was flirting. I'm not quite sure if she realizes that she was flirting with her nephew...
So, yeah. My options weren't all that great. "Time to decide!" Priestess Yara sang. "Ready?"
I wasn't ready.
"Set,"
Umm... Random name, random name...
"Choose!"
"Gossamer!" I shouted.
"Oh, yay! Excellent choice--Gossamer?"
"Um... Yeah, you know... Gossamer."
"No, I don't know Gossamer. Who the heck is that?"
"Um... She's...."
A voice echoed. "Wait... He chose me?! Why?!" Gossamer appeared in a ghostly form beside me.
Before you all jump down my throat, I panicked. Calm down. "Uh... My Lady! Perfect timing! To what do we owe this...uh...unexpected pleasure?"
"I..." She looked back, shocked, and gave me a stink eye. I nodded and gave her a thumbs up. She continued. "I am weak compared to other gods. It is no wonder I am a new face to you, Priestess. Speaking of weakness in battle...." She turned to me. "I have new information regarding Jet and his forces."
"What is it, My Lady?" I felt bad for shoving her under the bus, but I'm worse than she is at impromptu stuff.
Gossamer appeared serene. She could pull off the goddess act if she kept her cool. Her eyes suddenly widened in fear at something behind me. So much for keeping her cool. "Kaze...!" She whispered.
"What is it My Lady?" I stammered. Priestess Yara gasped and covered her mouth.
"He's right there."
"Who's right--"
"--Jet! Jet's right behind you!"
"Nice try, My Lady. I'm gullible, but I'm not stupid. I'm sorry, Priestess, she's quite the prankster."
"Kaze... Turn around." Priestess Yara said.
I turned around and looked up. I caught a glimpse of him before he vanished. Wind knocked me down and I heard Gossamer scream.
"You aren't a goddess, are you?" Jet said, holding her face. "You managed to trick this boy into believing you were. A fine job, little siren. A job I didn't think you'd do."
"Leave. Her. Alone." I stood.
"And what are you going to do? You are but a leaf in the hurricane." He smiled. How many people had he told to find me?
"I can't do much, but goddess or not she's still My Lady and I'll protect her at all costs." I grabbed my sword.
He threw her to the ground. "You want her? She's right there." A tornado formed around her. I summoned all of my strength and dissipated it. We locked eyes over the girl.
"Yara. Take Gossamer and leave."
"No need. I'll be on my way. Thanks for following me!" Gossamer disappeared. The room was silent.
"Um... You guys need a heart-to-heart chat. I'll wait outside." Yara said, closing the door behind her. I could do this.
