"Mamma! Stop,..." I laughed as she continued furiously tickling me. I doubled over on her arm and she grabbed my waist and spun me around. "No remember I have to get you for the game you won," she giggled. "No, No," I laughed while the soft rain drops dampened my hair. She paused me in the air so I could stare into her eyes. Deep pools of dark brown. Like chocolate. Her black hair that she spent so much time curling seemed to droop hopelessly because of the rain. Everyday, she seem to spend more time on her appearance than ever. It be forever before she finally plays with me.

"Whats wrong?" I asked softly. Mamma smiled then leveled me back down to the ground. "Just looking at my little man. Your growing up too fast for me baby," she said. I flexed my muscles "Yeah! I'm going to be a LO cause all real men become LO's!" I yelled while running around her. She laughed then scooped me on her shoulders. "I know you will become someone special, let's play on the swings!"

I ran to the swings that was tied against a large tree. The huge tire seat swung swiftly in the air. "Mom... I-I can't reach it!" I struggled trying to get on. She chuckled then grabbed my by the waist and pulled me up.

"There you go sugar, I-" "Mrs. Richmond,"

I gripped the tight ropes then looked towards the sound of the voice. A man dressed in dark clothing with a tight cap on his head. He held a gun in the palms of his hands

"Momma?" I whispered softly. Her eyes were trained on the man, completely ignoring my pitiful voice. "It's okay Dakota," she swallowed hard "everything will be okay." The man approached closer "Mrs. Richmond, we have orders to take you in to Pythanon Headquarters for theft, degrading reputation of our Mayor Xila, and heavy allegations of you conspiring with DFP. Do you understand the charges?" the man recited. My mind was spinning in confusion. DFP? Degrading the reputation of Mayor Xila? Theft? What is he talking about. Mama is the best Medical Doctor this city have to offer and now they want to arrest her for things she didn't do?

I jumped off the swings and rushed in front of Mama throwing my hands in front of her. "No she isn't going anywhere!" I screamed. "Dakota-" "NO! He won't take you away," I said. "Ma'am please come willingly or I will be forced to apprehend you and take your child," the man threatened. I balled my fist, digging my nails deep into my skin. "Dakota, baby," she dropped lower to the ground. I felt her lips press against my cheek. Then slowly burning tears threatened to spill over.

"I have to go," she whispered to me. "NO! Please don't go! I will be good... c-clean my room more often... cook for you. I won't cry anymore, I won't complain about anything... mommy please stay," I pleaded while grabbing her arm. "Mrs. Richmond" The guard yelled getting more frustrated. Mom snatcher her hand away from me and shot me a glare.

A glare that tore my heart into pieces.

"Let. Go," she said harshly. I backed away from her in shock. I was hurt and confused. Was I bad? Is this punishment for me spilling juice on the carpet earlier. Or-or is she still mad about when dad died. I knew she secretly blamed me... but- I didn't know she would leave me alone because of it.

"I have to go Dakota. If I don't, they will take you. You must understand. I love you more than the world and I won't loose you. I will come back to you one day."

"Mama..." I cried. Tears streamed down the side of my face. The rain began to pour more heavy mixing in with my salty tears. "I promise Dakota. I love you," she told me while walking toward the man. "Thank you for your cooperation."

And that was it. Those were the last words of my mother and the guard who took her away from me. Leaving me alone.

8 Years Later

"Hey, watch were your going!" someone yelled. I turned around and looked towards a boy about my age. His hair was gelled back and his eyes were a piercing green. "Whatever, dude," I said back. The boy grabbed a can soda from a stand. The man hosting the stand seemed to didn't notice. I scrunched my eyes together. "You just stole that," Then he started running. He darted past me but made sure to bump me hard enough for me to stumble.

It was weird though. I wanted to go after him. Ask for his name or something.

"HEY YOU KID!" the merchandiser screamed. I turned towards him and shrugged. "What?" "You stole my soda! LO's! HELP! THIEF"

And before I knew it and I was darting into the same path as the boy. Zigzagging through the crowds of people. Beads of sweat beginning to stream down my face and LO's at my heels.

My chest was contracting and I could feel my legs burning. My stamina was dwindling down to nothing. But then... something jerked me to the left.

I collapsed down tho the ground with heavy breaths, into someone's living room. "Hey bro," a familiar voice rang. I coughed and started panting on the ground. "Bro?" I stuttered out.  The same guy from the market, green eyes came into view. Stubble aligned his jawline and specks of soda clung to his chin. "Here," he said. He thrust a cold water bottle in my hand. "Sorry about that, but, here. Thought I should help out since I did get you into this," the guy chuckled.

I propped my self on my elbow and kicked the door shut. The solid granite stone alley way in front of us slowly crept out of view as the door closed shut. Protecting me from the LO's.

"Oh, and since your just like me-" "what you mean just like you?" I asked while chugging down some water. The cool liquid seeped down my throat and some spilled down my mouth. It tasted so good and relived some of the burning pain. "A fugitive. And... well we will talk about the other thing later, but for no man, my name is Andrew. And before you fall hopelessly in love with me... I only like girls." I chuckled then stood up, brushing off the excess dirt from my clothing. "Don't worry about that. If I was into guys... I wouldn't choose someone as ugly as you." Andrew busted into laughter then fell onto his white sofa.

"Whatever man. You lost your parents eh?" he asked. I nodded "how ya know?". Andrew shrugged "'cause I lost mine as well. You need a place to stay?" he asked.

Instead of being cautious about how fast things are moving and analyzing the situation deeper I quickly let my instincts take over and said "yes. You let me crash here until I'll figure something out?" I asked.

Andrew sized me up for a moment then nodded. "Yeah why not?" he chuckled then held his soda in his hand. The one he stolen previously. "Cheers."
