Two lives intertwined

It was around midnight when we met, me and him. And, while our paths had crossed before, they never did quite like this.

I was out later than I would've liked. The sky was somehow made even darker by the storm clouds overhead, their thunderous growls warning those below to the coming onslaught of the storm.

I pulled the collar of my jacket closed around my neck, it was freezing out at that time, so I wanted to get inside as quickly as possible. Tilting my head up I glared at the darkening sky, cursing both it, and my bad luck.

A small drizzle started down from the clouds, causing me to both grab the hood of my jacket and sling it over my head, and to quicken my pace. I was the only one in their right mind out at this time, so what happened next will have to be taken as the truth.

I was nearing my friend Shinichi's house when I heard panting coming from behind me. Surprised, I turned around to meet the person, who was, presumably, trying to find cover from the hardening rain.

Who I saw, however, set into motion events I couldn't have predicted. I saw a little kid, around seven years old, bent over with his hands on his knees. His hair was brown and had a cowlick in the front, a small tuft stuck out in the back, 'That's weird, where have I seen that before...?' I thought. I studied his appearance further and realized his clothes were way to big for him, this peaked my interest.

I decided to say something, so, stepping forward I asked him one simple thing, "Hey, are you lost?"

It all happened within ten seconds, the boy's head shot up to look at me, fear and confusion danced in familiar sapphire blue eyes.

It was then a memory ripped itself from the back of my mind and shot to my attention: the clothes, the hair, even the eyes. They were all dead ringers for one person.

"Sh-Shinichi?!" I exclaimed, lightning cracked and thunder boomed over the two of us. I stood there in shock, there was no way this kid was him. Right?

The kid nodded, and started walking towards me (nearly tripping in the process). He was around waist height on me, which was a far cry from his original statcher, which was taller than me. I squatted down so our eyes were level with each other, me and his eyes were locked on each other for more than a few minutes.

At last I broke eye contact, staring up at the dark and stormy sky, I made my decision.

"C'mon, you can tell me what happened when we get inside, or else we're both gonna get hypothermia."

We took shelter inside Shinichi's house, currently, I was waiting in the library for him to reappear. I lazily scanned the shelves while running my finger down the spines.

'Oh joy, MORE Sherlock Holmes books.' I thought sarcastically, rolling my eyes at the teen genius' lack of interest in other books.

The sound of shuffling feet reached my ears, curious, I turned around to find Shin in his old grade school uniform. I stifled a laugh when I saw this.

Shinichi rolled his eyes at me, "Very mature Drake." He winced at the sound of his voice.

"Hmm......I called Agasa while you were gone, he said he'd be here as soon as he could." I said, having to look down to see Shinichi for the first time in my life.

Shin sighed and headed for the bookshelves. I raised an eyebrow when I saw him start to reach up, "Um, Shin, what are you doing?"

"Trying to grab a book, why?" He grunted out, standing on his tip toes he barely could reach the fourth shelf. I rolled my eyes and grabbed one of the Holmes books from the higher shelf, Shin growled out "Thanks" before climbing - emphasis on "climbing" - onto a chair and cracking the book open.
