Chapter ONE
I was sleeping very well until my mother woke me up. Only reason why I wasn't mad at her was because of the look on her face. Her usual naturally tan face was now pearly, pale white and frightened. I was still sleepy but I could see her very clearly.
"Mommy? What's the matter?"
Through it all, she tried, not very well, but at least tried, to look okay with whatever was going on. Good thing she wasn't one to lie. "Nothing good, sweetie. I don't want to tell you, though, until you get a bit older."
Well, that makes sense, considering I'm only eight years old. "Well, what are we gonna do? Are we going to the Emergency Center?" The Emergency Center is where everyone in our kingdom goes to when there's an emergency, hence Emergency Center. It's a very secret place that only people in our kingdom know about.
She smiled sadly. "No sweetie. The Emergency Center was destroyed. We're going to a whole new world."
I gulped. Only the Warriors go to new worlds. This must be something very serious.
I heard a noise, like shattering glass, running feet, and of course, the horrible, horrible screams. I would never get that deafening sound out of my head.
Mom looked sick and panicked. "Come dear," she said, grabbing my tiny hand. "We must hurry." She took me to my secret door; a door that is exactly like that of my bedroom wallpaper. She snapped open the wall panel and typed in number 1, and the kingdom password. That stands for CODE RED, meaning after we enter, no one else can enter. The door just won't open for them even if they know the password.
The door slid open quickly and soundlessly. We ran through and Mom opened the second wall panel and typed in the kingdom password. This closed the doors just as someone, dressed in red, ran in my room with three others right behind. They had swords grasped in their hands. They were all cut and the one in the front had a gash in the side of his neck that was bleeding badly. They caught my eye as the door was just closing. Yet that wasn't the worst I saw. Their swords were bloodstained. They killed some people in my kingdom. They had no right.
My mom, still holding tightly on my hand, took my for a very long run. We ran through the tunnels of the Underground Passage, our most secret possession. It is very high-tech and holds up the kingdom. We took the memorized twists and turns of the tunnels. Every month, we had drills to get through the passages. Anyone who didn't have them memorized would surely get lost and possibly die.
When we reached the middle of the tunnel, I wanted to cry. This is where everyone meets, the middle. These people though, were not who I grew up with. These people were damaged and hurt. They're were some that were fine but most were injured in some way.
I blinked my tears away and looked for my two sisters and four brothers. I found Avril, my older sister. Her arm was cut, but other than that she was unharmed.
I ran to her, feeling a lump in my throat. "Avril! Avril!"
Her eyes grew wide. "Oh my god! Sia! You're unharmed!" She hugged me a little to tightly, but I didn't mind because I was terrified.
"Where's daddy?" I asked. At the sound of my voice, my dad turned around and looked at me. "Sia! My god! Are you well?" I nodded. "Where is your mother?" I turned and pointed to where my mom was talking to Max and Andrew, two of the finest protectors. Dad walked over to my mom and hugged her tightly.
I turned to Avril. "Where's Maria, Zach, Devon, Bronson, and Benjamon?"
Avril looked sad at the names. "Maria went with Aunt and Uncle Splint. Bronson and Benjamon were on their way here when they found a demon about to kill Devon. They killed the demon and the last I heard they were on their way. But...I overheard Mrs. Jackson talking to Dad about blood and ash in Benjamon and Bronson's room. I just don't know Sia. I just don't know."
