The above ground

I lie awake a few hours, completely restless. I'm just starting to fall asleep, just starting to rest, when the ground starts tomorrow shake. It feels like a 5.0 earthquake. Sarah wakes up screaming. We get our things quickly and get the heck out of there. Outside, it's just like my dream, only we're not in a cemetery, and there's no reanimated corpses. We run, duck, and dodge. The sound of the earth crumbling, deafening. The sky really is as red as blood. Cracks break through the surface here and there as fire and lava break free and spew like the ol' faithful geyser. We just manage to make it to the woods as the earthquake calms. I slip through the trees to see what kind of damage had been done. The sky is now more of a dark fiery red. The once beautiful $100,000 houses are now reduced to nothing but burning heaps of rubble and debris. Half of the trees are either burning or dead. There's fire and lava everywhere the earth has opened. I have a feeling we're royally screwed. This is what I imagine Hell on Earth would look like. I look over to see Sarah staring off into the distance at the houses, silently crying.
"My best friend lives there."
She says it like there's actually a chance that they're still alive. I guess she just needs closure.
