It was a wild night full of laughter and dancing, followed by a mild hangover. I found myself in Toms bed with him on the floor. I looked at the alarm and it read 12:30 PM. Shit.... I thought to myself I was late. I had told my father that Tom and I would be meeting him for brunch before going to watch the men's gymnastics. Our coach was very strict with my team, we had one major rule to follow, and that was it doesn't matter if it's your day off, if GB team is competing you're watching. Which given the circumstances right now it kind of sucks because all I want to do is be snuggled up with Tom all day, not watching gymnastics and giving interviews. I woke up Tom as fast as I could and had him rushing towards the shower, he was all sorts of confused and really didn't get what was happening as if he was still half asleep."We have to meet my father in less than 30 hurry!!!" I yelled as I ran out of my room towards mine. As I busted in the door Aly came at me with ten billion different questions, "No time to talk!" I yelled running for the shower. I quickly jumped in and out and began to get ready. I threw my hair into a ponytail, put on some make up and rushed to find what to wear. I put on a white 'Team GB' hoodie, red GB leggings, and white running shoes. I grabbed my phone and credentials and ran for Toms room. As soon as I got there he opened the door and was wearing the same exact thing as me almost minus the leggings. I grabbed him by the hand and headed downstairs. We headed to a little restaurant in downtown London nearby where Tom and I would be giving our first official interview together. It seemed really weird because there were much more important things to interview us about, but for whatever reason they weren't only interested in how we were doing here in London so far.
We had an amazing lunch with my dad, and thankfully kept the harassment down to a minimum, which was a surprise because I've never really had a boyfriend before so I half expected my dad to interrogate him the entire time. Instead they just got to know each other and talked about sports as two men will do. Tom and I headed over to the spot in the village where they had the stage set up and walked up to the producers and our host, Ryan Seacrest was his name. I believe he is American, but he was there to interview all countries. He asked us what we'd be comfortable talking about and how things were going to work. They got us both set up with the microphones and sat us down to begin.
"5,4,3,2,1" the producer counted down
"Good afternoon we are coming live from London, and with us today we have two British competitors Miss Mattie Rodgers, she is on the gymnastics team and is favored to win 5 gold medals out of the 6 that can be won, as if you didn't already know, and also Mr Thomas Daley, who is a Diver that has already won one gold medal for his country so far and is hoping to win at least three more while he is here. So how are you two doing today?" He asks
"Very good thank you" I replied
"Fantastic, and you?" Tom said after me" I'm very good thank you, but now enough about me I want to get right into this interview because there are tons of things everyone is dying to know about you two. Before we get to discussing the sports and your selves I want to know more about the two of you as a couple, when did you two meet? Was it before the games, or during?"
Tom took over this answer before I could and said "I met her two years back, she was sitting in a coffee shop and I couldn't help but go talk to her and buy her another drink, it was great because at the time she had no idea who I was, and silly me I had no idea who she was either, until I found her sitting in the Starbucks in the Olympic village all dressed in our presentation clothes."
"So you had met her but never talked to her again until then?"
" No because she was very shy and reserved that day, when I helped her bring her things to her car she had told me "You'll see me again one day." when I asked for her number, it really hurt my ego to be quite honest."
We all laughed for a moment
"That's actually a very funny and sweet story, almost like it was meant to be. So Mattie, you really had no clue who he was then?"
"Not at all, I was very much still into a hard core training mode then because I really wanted to get to these games so I was a little oblivious when it came to other sports and athletes. I was actually just as shocked as he was to see him in that Starbucks," I giggled
"So I'd like to ask you something a little more I guess on the personal side with your relationship Mattie, there are many people out there criticizing you on your relationship with Tom, how are you handling that?"
"Well, it was hard at first. I actually had called quits with Tom when it first happened because I couldn't handle it, but Tom helped me realize, they're only jealous because its not them. That I'm in the Olympics and they've probably never done a sport in their life. So I just have to remind myself that they're just words and they don't mean anything because I'm going to accomplish more at 18, then most of them will in their lifetime. There's days where it's hard and some where it's not, but it's all in how you handle it. If you show them you care, they'll keep it up, if you show them you don't, eventually they'll get bored and move onto their next target." I replied
"Wow, very well said. So I know you wish to remain somewhat private about things, so just one last question on your relationship I promise. Tom, you've been in the spot light much longer than Mattie so we all know by now that this is your first serious relationship, and we now know it's yours as well Mattie, but do you already hope its your last?" He questioned Tom
"Well of course, honestly Mattie is the kind of girl that I feel as if I've already known her for a life time. With this popularity I've been receiving as of lately I do get a lot of random girls just throwing themselves at me and so it makes it difficult for Mattie to see these kinds of things but in all honesty no girl will ever compare, I don't see myself ever falling for a girl the way I have with her. So no matter what we go through she will most definitely be my one and only yes." He said with a large smile on his face while staring into my eyes and placing his hand on mine.
"That's very sweet to hear. Now Mattie, tomorrow you have your team finals, which could be the first time you medal in the Olympics, you guys are leading by over 10 points almost, how exciting is it to know that tomorrow you could be an Olympic gold medalist?"
"Honestly, it doesn't even feel real yet, like I feel as if this is all just a dream and I'm sitting here waiting to wake up, but it's so exciting and nerve wrecking because anything can happen any time you step on the floor, the beam, or up to the bars. It doesn't matter anymore how many times you've practiced something, all that matters is what you do in that minute and thirty seconds. But I have all the confidence in the world for my team to go out there and do amazing and bring home that gold!" I smiled
"Well with that kind of attitude you're definitely going to be proving all your doubters wrong and winning those medals. I have no doubt in my mind. Thank you guys so much for coming and letting me and the rest of the world learn a little bit about the two of you. Good luck to the both of you!"
We both thanked him and then had to rush off to the gymnastics arena before I was toast. As soon as we snuck into our seats my coach shot me the evil eyes. Oh crap was all I could manage to think. I knew this was going to turn into a lecture later on, unless I could figure out a way to get out of it. Interviews weren't really
a big priority to my coach as supporting your team was. So I was screwed no matter what.A/N: I know this wasn't my best but I wanted to get a chapter out and needed kinda a filler chapter so I will most definitely get a better one out ASAP :)
