Emily's POV:

I gave Jesse the death glare. I could feel my face just heating up thinking about what she said.
Cocky girl, I thought.
Just watching her interact with my parents was like different for me. Seeing her just being her like this with the people who I have the most trouble being myself around. The most uppity judgmental people I know seem so content around her. She's so calm under the pressure of meeting them and the questions they are asking.

My father kept asking Jesse questions about school. My mother being all flirty and amazed at the simple things that she says.
I felt Jesse's gaze on me as she answers to my dad.
My heart raced.
Why am I doing this.

I'm glad I covered up her eye though. My father doesn't approve of fighting. He's pretty stern with who he allows over to stay in our house. He's kicked out many of my boyfriends before, them just giving options on sports or politics that's not the way he likes he sends them home.

"Why don't we freshen up before dinner huh?" Steven came over.
"Mr. Weston dinners at 7:30 "
"Very well Steven. See you all then." He said walking away.
I rolled my eyes.

Jesse looked at me again. Then looked at her phone.

My mom came over to me.
"Emily I'm quite impressed with him." She said looking back at jesse who was texting someone.

So my parents think Jesse's a guy. I said feeling better about it. My family's very conservative and wouldn't stand for me to be with a girl. The thought would give my father a heart attack.
I wondered if it upset Jesse though.
I'll have to ask her later.

My mom turned to me again.
"Jesse will have to stay in your room since we have more family coming over for your cousins wedding tomorrow." She said smiling.
"Ok." I said.
"I'll see you at dinner" She said leaving me.

Jesse POV:

Man her father really drilled me on some questions about college but I had good answers for him so it was all good.
She seemed uncomfortable though.

I answered some texts from Clint while she talked to her mom.

Emily walked over to me after her mom had left the room.
"Hey lets go upstairs." She said shyly.
"Uh ok." I said sensing her uncomfortableness.
We got to her bedroom.
Our bags were on the floor.

I sat down again on her bed. She slipped out of her heels.
She sat on the other side of the bed not facing me.
"Jesse?"

"Yeah?"

"Are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm great, are you ok?" I said curiously.
"Well my parents think your a guy."
"That's ok". I said not caring.
"Are you sure?" She said.
"Yeah"
"Why did you say we were dating?" She said in a sterner tone.
"Uh, I just thought it would be easier." I laughed a little.
"Asshole" she mumbled.
"Heard that" I said laughing.
"Well thanks to you now we have more pretending to do." She said trying to sound angry.  "So just uh we will figure it out." She said still trying to be angry.

I got up pretending to be angry.
She didn't say anything.
I approached her side of the bed and leaned over her body pushing her back onto the bed.
She didn't protest.
I stared at her lips long enough to see her breathe in and out again. Her breath short like she was frightened.

"I'm not going to lie Emily Weston, I like you. I always have." I said looking into her eyes not moving away. To my surprise She touched the back of my neck with her hands.

Just as she was leaning in like we were bout to kiss I backed off of her. I took off my shirt revealing my slim sports bra that was barely covering anything at all. I got back onto bed.
She didn't even flinch. It's like I left her in shock. She looked like she was thinking. Thinking hard. I chuckled.
"Bet you never been left hanging like that huh?" I said smiling.
"Never" she said.
"Well it keeps ya wanting more huh?" I said laughing a bit.
She hit me playfully In the arm.
