"Bucky, are you sure there weren't any others with you?" Jessica asked. She had been tasked with helping Bucky recover his memory. They were doing well, Bucky remembered his days as the Winter soldier, up until the Kennedy assassination. He knew he did it, he had figured that out when he first escaped, he just didn't know how he did it.
"Jessica, there was nobody else. At least after the assassination." He muttered the last part, hoping Jessica wouldn't catch it. Sadly, she did and used her telepathy to dig through his broken, shattered mind.
"Bucky, I know it's hard but please try to remember before the assassination? Maybe, maybe the trigger words would help?" Jessica suggested hesitantly. Bucky slammed his metal hand down on the table while standing in anger.
"I said no!" He yelled, causing Jessica to jump. Bucky took a deep breath and pinched the bridge of his nose with his human hand, muttering an apology before stumbling out of the room and down the hall.
Jessica sat rigid in her seat trying to calm her heart rate before her telekinesis powers took over. She heard a light knocking on the door and looked up to see her friend, natasha, standing in the doorway.
"You alright Shadow?" Natasha asked while walking into the room to sit in the chair Bucky had vacated. Jessica breathed out shakily and nodded her head, still staring blankly at the wall ahead of her. Natasha placed her hand on her friend's shoulder.
"Hey, he won't hurt you. He wants to be good, and remember, but he doesn't know how." Natasha explained. Nobody knew the real reason why she was so desperate to find out if there were others. Jessica ran a hand through her dark brown hair before resting both hands atop the desk.
"I know he won't hurt me. I can make sure of that, but, I've seen inside his head Nat. It's like, there's a wall between his mind and his memories before the Kennedy assassination. And he doesn't even know it's there." Jessica explained, twiddling her thumbs together and noticing Natasha had a stress ball in her hand. Jessica slowly took the ball from Natasha, forest green wisps surrounding the ball.
"You're trying again?" Nat asked, watching her friend with caution. Jessica was well in control of her telepathy, but her telekinesis could use a little work. Jessica nodded while floating the ball in a circle slowly, trying different maneuvers.
"Maybe if I can control the other half of my powers, the telepathy will get stronger and I can see what's on the other side of that wall in Barnes' head." Jessica said quietly. Natasha nodded and watched her friend spin the ball. Jessica took her eyes off the ball for a second to look for another item to take, but quickly snapped her attention back when she heard a sound like a small explosion.
"Damn." She muttered, snapping her fingers so the tips had dark green wisping around the edges and waved her hand through the tiny black hole that had once been the ball. Natasha's eyes widened, as did everybody else's did when jessica accidentally created a black hole.
"You could always ask Wanda for help." Natasha suggested. Jessica shrugged, she liked Wanda, but just didn't feel as close to her as she did with the other Avengers. Wanda had been distant from everybody since the Avengers took her in after Sokovia. Well, distant from everybody except Clint and Pietro. Clint had become a father figure towards the twins, feeling responsible for Pietro's near death. Luckily doctor Cho had been able to save the speedster with the help of her technology and Pietro's enhanced metabolism, meaning he healed quickly.
"Listen, I know you don't really talk to her much but maybe you two just need something to bond over." Natasha said. The Scarlet Witch and Emerald Shadow both had similar powers, but Jessica could move things without having wisps of color connecting her to the item. the only thing connecting them was the dark green cloud surrounding the item whenever she moved it. That dark green matched the color of her eyes when she moved the objects.
