The first attempt : Invasion

Chapter 5

Sydney
This receptionist wasn't anything like other receptions.
She wasn't wearing makeup and wasn't dressed in official attire. Instead she was wearing casual clothes. She had on a grey plaid button up shirt and distressed blue jeans .
The most surprising thing was that instead of being tired and grumpy she was perky and sported a wide friendly smile that showed off her sparkling white teeth . She had earth brown hair that was pulled into a French braid and had beautiful hazel eyes .
"Sydney, Hera this is Clarissa Hart daughter and secretary of Henry Hart ." Hadrian said gesturing towards the teenager behind all of the piles of documents and folders. She looked at him adoringly and then almost visibly pulled her gaze away to look at us ." and Clarissa this is Sydney and that is Hera they are new here and need to meet Henry for their interview ."
  I smiled and said "Hello ."      and she waved her hand politely in return. I noticed how she looked , no wait stared at Hadrian. They must be together I had thought . Another thing I had noticed was how she had looked at me . It was a momentary look , something I would've missed had I not been so observant. She had looked at me like I was a long unsolved mystery. The puzzled look in her eyes was immediately replaced by utter friendliness .
Then she got up and looked over the desk at Hera who was clinging to me . She smiled at her sweetly and said "Hi there . How old are you?"
"Eight." She mumbled still holding me tightly.
"Well ." She said with a sigh ." You have to wait for a while dad is busy right now , but it should only take a few minutes." She continued.
"Oh and Hera has to go in first ,since she is younger and than you ." She informed.
"Okay." I agreed .
"Umm Hadrian, I need to talk to you about something . " she said to him with a look that implied  the importance of the matter .
He nodded and looked towards us .
"Why don't you guys go sit in the sofa over there and I'll be right over ?" He suggested pointing at a small black couch .
I nodded and took Hera's hand in mine. I went up to the sofa and I sank right into the comfortable memory foam .
Hadrian and Clarissa were busy chatting off but I couldn't see them I could only hear furious mumbling. The couch was hidden from their view by a wall and I was glad because I had time to speak to Hera privately.
"Hey Hera ?"
"Yeah Syd ?"
"When you go in there , they umm might ask you some questions and stuff ."
"Yeah I know , I figured that out when you told me it was an interview ."
"Ohh really, you're a smart girl aren't you . I guess you don't need my help with homework any more ." I retorted smugly . I knew she would react .
She looked at me with wide eyes and her pink lips were parted in shock and disbelief . I laughed aloud .
"Hera I don't think you're gonna have homework any time soon ." I joked indicating the current situation .
"Oh." She mumbled .
"But I promise if you do , I will help you ." I assured with a warm smile .
She smiled back . I didn't want to ruin this moment with terrible news .
I sighed , I had to tell her some how about mom and dad .
"Look Hera , I know I told you that we would see mom and dad soon , but the truth is that I really don't know when we'll see them again."
"Uhh we might not get to ok ? So I want you to be strong and prepared for it .
Just know that I'm always there for you okay. And I will protect you with my life ." I continued. Woah that so cliché I can't believe I said that, but I needed her to know that she was safe .

I kissed her cheek gently and smoothed her silky pale  hair . She looked exactly like mom . Her hair although was dad's platinum blonde colour . I on the the other hand looked like dad . I had his grey eyes that were slightly purple in the centre . But my jet black waves were entirely my mothers .

I saw tears welling up in her eyes . Oh no. Oh no . I can't break my promise. I have to keep her happy and safe . I can't go through this without her. She did not know it but she was the only reason    I was fighting through all of this wreckage. I wanted to keep her safe more than anything.
"What is happening Syd ? I don't get any of this ."
"I don't know Hera , I really don't . But I promise I'll find out okay . And don't worry we will get through all this safe and sound and before you know it all this will be over ." I wiped away her tears and hugged her .
