Disappointment

I lay in bed that night thinking of what happened hours ago.

I never knew super powers ever existed. It was pretty frightening. I didn't know what was happening. Is Dan a super hero or something? I don't know, he told me not to tell anyone and I will keep my word for that.

The alarm on my phone blares in my ear. I drowsily hit my phone until the alarm stops. I yawn as I stretch. School starts way too early.

I peel myself away from the warm enclosure I lay in and place my feet on the cold floor, yawning as I stand to turn on the light.

I make my way towards my closet and pick out the usual. Black skinny jeans and a random t-shirt.

Dan
I walk into the school, glaring at random people as I pass. Everyone parts from the middle of the hallway to let me through. I'm not that intimidating, am I?

I sit down in 1st period English and just stare at the wall.

"H-hey Dan" a quiet, small voice calls out.

I snap my head towards the sound and see Phil.

"Goddamn do you ever leave me alone?" I respond with an annoyed tone

"This is m-my assigned seat, sorry for saying hey" Phil responds then sitting down and not paying attention to Dan at all.

The bell rings as the teacher walks into the room.

"Ok guys, I have a little project for you all, what you're going to do is turn to one of your neighbors that you don't know very well and you're technically going to interview them. Ask them questions about their life and technically get to know them. Take a week to really get to know your partner, you may begin"

Phil turns to me with the biggest smile on his face.

"Hey partner!" He says over enthusiastically

"Oh great....." I respond rolling my eyes

"Ok so we have a week to get to know each other, this should be easy."

"Don't expect to become my best friend or anything" I snap

Phil furrows his eyebrows while looking at me.

"D-Dan? Why don't you want friends?"

"Friends want to know your secrets, secrets get leaked, that's all"

The bell rings and I stand up and rush out of the class into the busy hallway leaving Phil by himself

I scrape the bottom of my shoes on the hot sidewalk on my way home.

It's obvious the secret Dan was telling me today was about his, power.

What even was it? I don't even know, I just know it's a real thing that actually happened.

Dan saved my life and I can't even imagine how I'm going to pay him back.

Hopefully this project will let me get to know him.

"So Dan......" Phil was asking yet another question

It was too early for school, and Phil won't stop asking me questions about my life.

"What do you want to do after high school?" Phil plants a cheery smile while looking up at me.

"If only I'd get through high school first, then we'll start talking about university."

"Ok......" Phil bites his lip as he vigorously scribbles down things onto his paper.

"Just one more for today...." Phil announces

"And that is?" I ask

"Why did you save me the other day?"
