I didn't get why everyone made a fuss, about him comming. Like really?
Sure i didn't know him, because by the time i came to work her at the Palace, he had already left 2 years before. Thinking of it now, i am really glad i didn't get the chance to meet him, because by what i heard, from the gossip that rounds the palace everyday, is that he is one spoilt, brat. How could we, have someone, that spoiled, as a prince like really. One of my best friends, Genevieve said earlier this week. Genevieve, Adisa, and I all worked at the palace together, for years now. I was tired of being here. Working on my hands and knees, everyday. The Queen, Mother, always found something for us servants to do. She made sure none of us rested. She somewhat treated us as mear slaves.
But i should be gratefull to her, because if not for her, i wouldn't have had this job, with which i'm able to provide for my family. For a twenty-two year old, i sure am proud of what i had achieved. I mean sending my twin sister Walia and Aaliya to school, was something and too being able to provide hospital, help for my mother.
Speaking of which. Earlier ,I had to run to the local chemist, to get my mother some drugs. Her illness had really gotten her this morning. I hope the Queen mother, wouldn't be angry, because i knew i had to go to work late today.
My mother was coughing real hard, and she was heating up. The doctors didn't know, what kind of a disease she had contracted, but it wasn't malaria, fever, T.B, Aids, nothing of that sort, which made treating her, with the best type of medication difficult.
Our doctor said, i'd have to take her, to the best hospital in the country in abuja, and she would need, surgery. I had been saving a lot of money and i am so close, to getting enough money for her, to take the surgery.
Luckily mothers cough didn't last long and she fell into a deep sleep. I was glad, it didn't last long, because i could see the pain she was going through.
I have to say, my mother, was the best. I guess that's what we all say for our mothers, but i admired, my mother even more, because when my father left, my mother didn't have a job. She was a devoted mother and housewife. She didn't have time to mend her broken heart and did all she could to help us survive and made sure, i finished school, and that my little sisters, still went to school. She sold almost all of her possessions, land, her best wrappers, and fruits and vegetables in the market before her illness struck.
I was one of the highest performing students in my school, with great grades and had a scholarship to go to one of the universities to study Law. But i couldn't go, cause i couldn't leave my sisters with that burden so i stayed home and looked after my sisters and my mother. I don't regret the decision i made one bit.
I covered my mother and closed the house door and placed the key under the mat. I ran as fast as i could to reach the bus stop and luckily i caught a motorcycle on the way. I looked at his watch and saw that i was at least two hours late.
I thanked the lord that i was already dressed in my uniform. The driver dropped me off, and luckily everyone, was busy minding their on business, and i made my way to the servants quarters. Adisa stopped me and took me to a corner where no-one was looking.
"Where have you been all morning." she said almost squeezing the life out of my hand.
"Mama, became very ill this morning, so i had to tend to her."
"I hope she's feeling fun now. But you could've least given me a heads up, because me and Genevieve had to lie about you where a bouts, for two hours." She said showing two with her fingers. She giggled, and dragged me back.
"Queen mother, gave you the chore of cleaning his room and serving the supper tonight." she said. I stopped in my tracks. Why tonight, i never got the night shift, except once when Adisa, tried to pursue her modeling career, which wasn't a while ago, but she messed it up, because she was too nervous and didn't understand the French the director spoke. But we had a laugh about it. Now she was learning french, with all the free time she had. We were happy for her. She wasn't going to be stuck in this hell hole all her life.
I made my way to the Prince's room, and it was in a bit of a mess. I didn't want to know why, but i guess, i did. Because no one ever entered this room, but it always seemed to be disheveled every time. I had new sheets and covers in my hand.
I was done with the room quicker today, and i was faster than all the other days. I smiled at myself. This Wednesday, things had to go right for me. And i hope Walia and Aaliya find the food i prepared this morning or maybe I'll have to send Adisa or Genevieve to tell them.
"Amara, Amara." it was "Queen mother, who was shouting my name out loud. I rushed as quick as i could.
"Yes my Queen." i said bowing down on one knee, and waiting for her to tell me to get up.
