LUKE RYDER CATTIVO'S P.O.V.
---------
"Yeah Shei, I'm on my way. Just hold her in a little longer. I'm just round the street. Okay? Thanks". I threw my mobile on the passenger seat and exhaled loudly. Same ole routine, Junior. I looked around for a place to park while grabbing my shades from the console box. I parked my car just little inches away from the 'No Parking Sign' that is of no use and stepped out of the car. My eyes, out of habit, shot up towards the big bright board. KIDDO'S INN. I knocked on the door, and let myself in.
Shei's cheerful face greeted me with her bicoloured hair touching her face every once in a while. Shei was an Indonesian-American with half side of her hair black and half dyed blonde. Unique yes, but it was the perfect type of unique that suited her. Just like her personality.
"Hey Luke, running late again are we?" Her shy, melodic voice reached my ears unlike that confident voice I was getting attached to.
"You don't even know. Now where is she? I'm a little tight on schedule as you can see." I explained, wanting to get away from this place. She left to get her while I observed the place. Toddlers running around wearing colorful clothes, toys littering the hallways, glitters on their faces and clothes. They radiated pure happiness, happiness I had long forgotten. But since a few weeks, this emotion is making its way into my heart, slowly. It's something mellow, yeah that I'm sure of.
A little squeel came from afar, and I found my lips turning upwards, slowly making their way into a full blown smile. I looked towards her. Always merry. With a glittery purple dress and white shoes, she was the definition of innocence. She ran towards me, giggling, and I caught her in my arms, her head buried in the crook of my neck.
"Luke", she pouted, "You're late again". Her frown and down casted lips made me feel guilty. Just because of that stupid fight I had messed up my whole day. Leaving mid-school, going to a hospital, grabbing a bite and then coming here had taken a lot of time.
"I'm sorry cara, I was so busy today and i lost track of time. Forgive me , please?" I asked with hope, knowing if she didn't forgive me it will be a hard time getting her to talk to me. She smiled at my lame excuse, she always knew I'm lying but let me go.
"Liar. But I'll let you off the hook, just this once. And this is only because I love you". She said, and pinched my cheeks. I kissed her little forehead and grabbed her bag from Shei, said good bye and went outside carrying my baby sister.
I buckled her into her baby seat, and went around driving. It was a twenty minute drive to our place, which was filled with Blue mostly talking my ear off about some princess dress-up thing she had today. When we arrived at our place, I parked my car in the garage and went out to get Blue. With her head resting on my shoulder and arms around me, I made my way inside. My mother, glued to her television, looked at us and got up. She came to us, kissed my cheek, then took Blue from me. I went to my room straight away, running along the stairs. I reached my door and slammed it open.
Same grey walls with movies and baseball posters, a huge king sized bed to the wall, a desk with my electronics on it, my book shelf with irregularly placed books and my skates, greeted me. I took of my shirt and went to the walk in closet, in front of the full mirror. I looked at my scarred arms and stomach. These are going to take some explaining. I went to the washroom and got under the shower. Cold shower.
Ice cold water poured over my head, chilling me to my core. My brain went numb for a second but then my body adjusted to the coldness. Then I thought about her. Her attitude, her confidence, her brave little soul, and her pride. She thought she was perfect, never letting people in, always so closed, so mysterious. At first I thought it was some inferiority complex, but no, no she has a superiority complex.
But then, all these complexities show nothing to what is inside.
Soghing, I rinsed my hair and body and got out of the bathroom, not liking the way i was feeling. I walked in my closet and got into loose slacks and a tee. Laying on my bed, i looked at the ticking clock which told me it was time. The only thing that could get my mind off things, that would help me.
I pulled at my hair and got up, going towards the cupboard. I carefully opened the door and there it was, veiled by green covers. The one thing the world did not know about me, Luke Cattivo. Taking it out of the covers, i looked at it. BLACK. With golden words etched on it. Words i still fail at pronouncing perfectly. I reached out and opened it, instantly feeling better. I traced the curved golden words that were wriiten on it, out of habit.
I was about to turn it when there was a knock at my door. It was like my whole body froze for a second, my hands were shaking and my mind went numb. I knew no one must see me with it, knew i had to hide it and hide it i did. Quickly covering it with the green clothe, i placed it in its right position and shut the door quickly, and raced towards my main door.
Opening the door with a bored and frustrated expression on my face, i looked at my little sister holding tigtly onto an up size teddy bear. Her neatly braided hair was rounded for a bun and she looked just adorable, huffing and puffing.
"Yes, bella?" I asked while squating down to her level. We had the same eyes, inherited from our mother of course.
"Papa's home. He says he wants to talk to you, now". I knew what this was about, already dreading going downstairs. But i had to do it, otherwise the consequences would be much worse.
"Grazie, mi amore. Ill be right down". I asked getting up pecking her head before and went inside. Casting one longing glance at my closed cupboard door, i put on my snickers and went out, closing the door behind, thinking of how close i came to getting bust.
'I should be more careful with it next time. Yeah'
With that, i ran down the stairs meeting my sister half way, throwing her little figure over my shoulder and going into the dining room. Only her giggles could be heard, which was all i needed. For now.
