She cried. It was a no brainer. It hurt as the blood dripped down her nose. She didn’t deserve this, she really didn’t. A silence descended on the group of teenagers and suddenly the heckling started. But they weren’t directed at Emily, more to her assailant.
“You’re such a bitch Laura,” said Andrea staring down at her in disgust. Even Laura couldn’t contain her composure anymore and started to wail.
“Every single one of you is against me, you can’t even see how much I’ve been wronged by Emily…” there was silence once again. Most of the students had started to shuffle towards class, less they be dragged in to fill an incident report. Emily was holding her nose as it bled slowly; she felt a light tap on her shoulder and quickly turned around. Andrew Watkins and Julian Mann were standing behind her. Julian passed her a tissue and Andrew gave her a hug.
“Come on sweetheart, best get you the school nurse,” Julian said as he led the way. Andrew stood next to her, maintaining a good distance.
“Is she really that insecure about her relationships that bitch…” by Andrew silenced her.
“I don’t think being spiteful, even now will do you any good. It’s best to forget what happened Emily,” said Andrew.
‘We’ll discuss this in study period, Robert and Gabby will be there and we can discuss ways for you to get over Joshua…” said Julian.
“Fricking hell Jay I don’t like Joshua anymore…”
“Sure,” Andrew and Julian replied in unison. The sarcasm was there and Emily realised that they may have a point.
Reporting what Laura did was one of the scariest things Emily had ever done. The Year 12 advisors room was right across from the nurses. Emily retold the story of the day’s events she could feel the warmth from Andrews arm as she spoke, it made her calm. Julian was on the other side of her, passing her tissues when it he deemed it necessary.
“Emily, you’re not normally a provoker, what’s gotten into you this year?” asked Mr Klein.
“Well, I’m not trying to provoke anything, I think someone’s just gone and told her lies in order to cause drama,” she replied.
“What like a shit stirrer?” asked Mr Klein, she had to laugh at him, he had no idea. The question wasn’t a joke, he was being serious whilst trying to incorporate the language of her generation. Even Julian and Andrew couldn’t contain their laughter.
“Shouldn’t you two have gone to class after you filled out the incident reports?” he asked, an eyebrow shooting into his flyway hair. Julian and Andrew stopped laughing and nodded, solemnly leaving Emily in Mr Klein’s office. As soon as they left Emily burst out laughing again.
“Mr Klein, you are a crack up,” she said. But he didn’t respond, he was looking at her, his face grave.
“Emily, violence is a very serious matter, I am going to have to punish her. You do realise that?” he asked.
“Yes.”
“But I want to ask you, what are your feelings about her being punished?”
“I’m afraid I don’t understand.”
“Are you glad she’ll be punished because she deserves it, or do you want her to be punished because of another reason?”
Had Mr Klein figured out about Joshua? His name hadn’t come up in the incident report, she wanted to leave him out of this. By why should she?
“Joshua Marks, I think I have some um…unresolved feelings for him. But even then I believe she should be punished to the full extent of the schools policy, but I don’t delete in the idea of someone being punished.”
