Dramatically different, that’s how many would describe the somewhat strange and epic story of Emily and Joshua’s friendship. Emily was forever the pinning woman, subjugated to mistrust and rumour, over some stupid mistake in their friendship.
“You’re got to remember Bec, she stalked Joshua when we were fourteen,” said Emily’s best friend Vivienne sarcastically to Rebecca.
“Yeah, because I totally had a car then and could do such stalking,” Emily replied. The girls were just getting on her nerves, her relationship with Joshua had improved, despite all the history. She looked over as he talked to Laura and she sighed, they had been getting awfully close lately and she was getting awfully jealous. Jillian had been watching her with interest as it finally clicked.
“Oh my god Em, not again, remember last time,” she said, emphasising a memory that had been long buried in Emily’s psyche.
“That was your fault bitch, you wanted him for yourself and couldn’t handle me being friends with someone else, let alone him and then you broke his heart,” Emily replied. An awkward silence descended upon the group and Emily walked away.
“Hey Em, what’s up?” Josh asked as he walked towards her. He was tall, with an interesting build, bordering on a muscly gorilla and he was blonde, she was rather a sucker for the blondes.
“Just getting my buttons pressed, what about you?” she asked. He looked at her with concern, and stopped her in her tracks.
“What’s gotten you all upset, tell me who and I might talk to them,” Emily didn’t look at him.
“You’ve been acting strange recently, is everything all right Em? You’re not starting to like me again, remember how awkward that was last time? It was pretty funny when Jillian told me, well not for you now that I think about it…” Emily had grown steadily redder as he spoke.
“But…but that’s in the past now, that’s history, it’s good to be back to being friends,” he said giving her a quick hug as she was still mortified. The awkwardness of the situation grew tenfold when they were joined by Laura.
“Hey babe,” she said it made Josh giggle and Emily gag. Why had she never thought of calling him that? He obviously got a positive response from it. They weren’t going out, but were playful together, and the sexual tension was obvious. But it wasn’t fair, Laura was blonde, slightly on the chubby side and if someone thought Jillian was a bitch, they had yet to meet Laura. Vivienne arrived by Emily’s side as Laura played with Josh’s hair. Emily wasn’t looking at them, she was trying to find something to fixate her eyes on, even a small bush would be better than this. Josh left to talk to some of the ‘guys’ as the three girls stood there, the situation awkward.
“You know what Emily why don’t you fucking grow? You’re so fucking short it’s weird,” said Laura as she stared around the quadrangle and in saying that left.
“That bitch,” Vivienne whispered to Emily. Emily just stared at Laura’s retreating figure.
“I don’t know what any of the guys see in her,” said Vivienne as Emily stared, forever mortified.
“Let’s talk about something else,” Vivienne replied, steering the conversation away from Joshua and Laura.
“Aren’t those two adorable, to bad she’s a fat whore,” said Jillian as she came bounding down the hill.
“Thanks Jill, we were trying to get off that topic,” Vivienne replied.
“I can’t believe she still thinks you’re friends,” said Jillian, completely ignoring Vivienne.
