"Mom" Meecasa said with so much dread as her mom picked up the phone and mentioned she put her on loud speaker. She already knew how the conversation was going to go down but she didn't want a situation where her parents would give her grief for not telling them about the new job. It was something she had to do. She had to talk to them.

"Meecasa baby, how are you doing? You don't call your mother anymore." Her mother said, jokingly.

"No, mom. You know it isn't like that, I have just been trying to get my life together. You know, just like you and dad always requested of me" Meecasa said with such disdain.

"Okay," her mom replied, "how is your life going? How are you getting your life together?"

"I finally got a job, mom. And I am happy about the job"

"Really baby???? I am so excited for you too. What's the job?"

"I am going to be the personal assistant to Christos Strato. Isn't that amazing?" Meecasa asked enthusiastically.

"Wait a minute," the excitement in her mom's voice died and Meecasa knew just about she was about to say. "You're going to be a SLAVE to some rich guy?"

"No sweetheart," Meecasa's dad cut in before she had a chance to answer her mom. "Our daughter is going to get an amazing experience from one of the richest guys on earth. I truly believe that is an accomplishment and I am proud of her."

Her mom replied, "You are proud of her?? You are proud of our baby girl, WORKING AS A SLAVE???"

Meecasa could hear the disdain in her mother's voice. She didn't know what to do or say. She was, at least, glad that her father was on her side. But what could he really do? Her mother was the voice of the family. Her father never said much because of how much he loved his wife. He always wanted peace in the family. But how could there be peace? Meecasa thought to herself. How could there really be peace? Her mother never understood the concept of trying hard to get what you want, everything she owns was literally handed to her. Her father, Meecasa reasoned, wasn't so bad. Her father took her side sometimes but when push came to shove, her father always flocked to her mother because it was the only logical thing for him to do, in his mind. He never, for one second, thought that she needed him. That Meecasa needed him.

"Mom, I am so glad you are happy I finally found a job. I am ecstatic, and I love the fact that I have your unconditional support." With that, Meecasa ended the call. She really shouldn't have called. She was so desperate to have a relationship with her parents she thought they would support her, at least this one time. Everything she did wasn't good enough. She worked twice as hard, she did things twice as well, but it was never good enough for them. Especially her mother.
