RAPUNZEL-Part 1
Hey. The name's Auriel. It means gold in Latin, no biggie. Just really convenient! I can spin straw into gold. Well, at least I can fake it and look really convincing. So convincing, I think I've even got my dad fooled. Every Saturday night I preform my "magical ability" in his pawn shop. The kids love it and the parents pay for it.
I've been doing this for years now, saving up to buy everything it takes to find my long lost brother. When I was six, my mother took him away for custody when she divorced my dad. The next month she was reported dead but my brother never turned up in the papers.
Now, and for the past 11 years, my father and I are doing everything we can to find him. He does some pretty shady things that even I can't wrap my head around, but if it gets us the money, it passes without a second thought.
But one night, everything changes.
My father busts into the house, frantically packing his things.
"Dad, what are you doing?" I ask him, immensely worried.
"We're leaving here, Auriel. I've made a mistake and there's people—bad people—who are looking to find you and exploit your power of spinning straw into gold."
I stare at him incredulously as he whips around our apartment throwing random items into suitcases. "You do know that that's just a magic trick, don't you?" He stops and looks at me, probably to see if I was joking. Seeing the sincerity on my face only made him more frantic and pale.
"Then we are in more trouble then I imagined." He pushes a bag into my hands. "PACK!"
"I'm not packing, Dad!" I throw the bag to the ground. "We are closer than we've ever been to finding August and I am not bailing now." Just then, the door to our apartment slams open. And I barely have time to turn and see what it is before I'm blindfolded and sedated.
