I follow Adeline up the stairs. Her dress swishes as she moves. She looks so fragile as if she could break at any moment.
Moments ago she had introduced herself as if it was something that she rarely did. I had been careful while I had shook her hand, making sure that it did not crumble away in mine.
I now follow her, making sure at any moment, given she falls, I should be there to make sure it is not to her death.
Her age being two years younger then I, does not seem realistic. While she looks to be younger, she acts five years older. Old enough to make her own decisions. I can see why Mrs. Wilson can not understand her.
She walks past many a room until she reaches one near the end of the corridor.
"This shall be yours. I hope you are content with it. Mine is across the wall if you need anything. You can also ring that if you wish for help from downstair" she points to a small chain hanging near the doorway.
As she leaves I can't help but ponder why she needed to show me and not simply call for Eleanor. I shake it off my mind and allow myself to look around the room.
The walls are painted gold so that when the sun shines upon it, from the large bay windows, the room shimmers. A queen sized bed is pushed against a wall in the far corner. And the dresser is made of Mahogany, like many other woods in the house. In total I am starstruck.
The only way way I can respond though is to flip down on the bed in a most unladylike manners. Before I can get up I am fast asleep.
