Madeline Bonnefoy sat patiently in front of her cream-coloured vanity, staring at her lovely face quietly.
Her eyes glittered a Persian blue, her face pale and cheeks tinted with carmine dye. Her outfit today was picked out by a servant girl by the name of Aimée; a Garibaldi shirt Father brought back from his voyage to Italy with a Swiss belt that laced in the front, an extensive green skirt that reach her heel, and a beautiful locket Father also gifted her with Mother's maiden name.Alice Kirkland
April 23, 1837It was lined with gold and engraved onto a heart-shaped pearl coloured quartz, given to her on her 15th birthday.
"Where are you going today, milady?"
It was Aimée, her eyes met Madeline's when she looked up from the loose, blonde braids in her dark hands.
"Alfred and I are supposed to travel to the market today with Sofia to buy a few things for Mother."
Aimée nodded her head, finishing the slack (yet well done) chignon on Madeline's head and stepped back as Madeline rose. Taking one of her glass perfume bottles she spritzed herself a few times before setting the bottle back down and all at once the room lit up with the smell of roses.
"Is there anything you would like at the market? Perhaps some candy or a new brush?"
" I cannot accept! You already do so much for me and the others already..."
Madeline locked their gazes as she moved forward, resting a firm hand on Aimée's shoulder. The smile brightened her face even more.
"I insist. Your favourite colour is blue, yes?"
"But the lord and lady!"
She leaned in to whisper. "Don't fret, they won't find out."
Madeline backed up and Aimée appeared uncertain for a moment.
"I suppose. But please don't let them find out." Aimée went back to the vanity and from a drawer out pulled an exuberant crescent hair comb garnished with the finest ruby and coral.
Madeline lowered her head as Aimée positioned the comb just above the chignon.
"Thank you, Aimée." Before Madeline left she brought her her parasol and a pair of silk gloves.
"Have fun, milady."
"Thank you."
