There was a time when we would make eye contact and the feeling I felt was like no other. A multitude of butterflies fluttered around my stomach, making me feel light and weightless, almost like I was floating on air. I would smile, and so would you, and for a moment I could forget about the world with you. It is funny how quickly times can change, because just the other day your eyes accidentally met mine for the first time in weeks. The contact barely lasted a second before it abruptly ended, yet all the pain came back in that single moment like a blow to the chest. A stabbing feeling erupted in my heart, and the force behind it knocked the oxygen out of my failing lungs. For a moment I was unable to breathe, but I will be forever shaken by the ghost of you and what we used to be.
