I guessed right, it was horses.  They were sitting lonely in an old stable, old and sad looking.  There skin sagged and even at our presence they din't seem frightened.

"They're old now, the worlds catching up with them.  But they could make one last ride, and die how they came into this world.  Happy." the girl flicked a tear from her eye.  I wanted to comfort her but I didn't even know her.

"Thankyou." Malia spoke up from behind.  I glanced back at her and even she looked sad.  I felt a little out of place here, they were just horses.

------------------------------------------------

Without persuasion the horses had let the girl, who told us her name was Sarah, saddle them up and lead them too the road.

I'd never ridden a horse before and I didn't want to admit I was scared.  Malia looked comfortable when she mounted hers and I could tell she was confident, but I just stood there awkwardly.

"Ummm..." I mutter annoyed that all anyone is caring about is the damn horses.

Malia bursts out in laughter, the first I've heard of it in days.

"Jai can't ride!  AHAHAHAHA!!" I scowl at her and jump up on my horse, only to fall back down in the dirt.

This just makes Malia laugh harder, bitch.

I get up and look at Sarah, her pretty brown eyes looking straight back at me.

"Thankyou." I say and I peck her on the lips.

I turn back to Malia and she has the expression I wanted, anger and jealousy, and no sign of laughter.  Laugh at me again, I dare you, I think.

I mount my horse as Sarah stands there stunned and ride off going off what I've seen in the movies.  It's not that hard.  Pull, pull left, pull right, whip.  I can hear Malia trotting along behind me but I can tell she's not gonna be talking to me for a bit now.

------------------------------------------------

I settle my horse near a stream just off the road.  The trees are dense and know one passing would be able to see us.  School seems like so long ago but I know that they could still be looking for us.

*Malia's POV*

I tie my horse up just down from Jai so I don't have to talk to him.  How dare he fucking kiss Sarah!  I'm not angry at Sarah only him, Sarah was so nice, especially since she gave up her horses for us.  Being on horses reminds me of home, I cried a bit on the ride here.  I wish Jai wasn't such a dick so I could talk to him, I know he can understand but his anger got the better of him again.

Betty leans her head down and munches on the grass.  I can tell her legs are getting old from the way she stumbles over her own feet, but she enjoys walking so much that she just never gives up.

I rub her neck as I hear Jai walking up to me.  I pretend not to notice his presence as he sits down next to me.

We sit a long time before he takes my hand in his.  I flinch away but he holds on tight and I give up trying to resist and lean into him, I miss his touch, everything has been so stressful lately.

"I'm sorry." he sighs "You know how I am when I'm angry." he sighs looking off into nothing.

I don't say anything, I wish I could forgive him but he just gets angry all the time so easily.
