Chapter 4
I'm sitting in 6th period staring at the clock, waiting for class to end. Only 20 more minutes and it's the weekend.
As I'm zoning out I hear Mr. Thomas mention a science project. I actually start to pay attention and turns out we have to make our own replica of an animal and a plant cell. There is only one word of how I feel about this project, BORING.
"Okay, class I am now going to choose you partner for you. The assignment is due in 2 weeks." Wait what? I don't remember him talking about that. I immediately start to panic, I hate working with partners. I'm way to shy and working with someone involves talking and going to each others house. I don't even know any of these people! I haven't talked to them. There is only one person in this class who I have talked to and that's Brian. Oh god, hopefully I don't get paired up with Brian. I'd be so nervous I will embarrass myself.
Mr. Thomas starts to pull names out of a cup pairing them up randomly. The list of people without a partner starts to shorten and Brian and my name haven't been called yet, oh no.
"Rachel." Mr. Thomas says reading off the first name. Oh no. I cross my fingers hoping he won't call-
"Brian." I sag my shoulders. Great. I glance at Brian and he grins at me, I just roll my eyes in response.
"Ok class take the next 10 minutes to discuss your project with you partner." Everyone rises off there seats going to meet there partner but I stay in mine.
"Hey Ray." I turn around and see Brian. Wait did he just call me Ray?
"Ummm Ray?" I ask crinkling my nose.
"Yeah, I figured you could use a nickname."
"So you decide to call me a boys name?"
"Yep." I roll my eyes, that is probably the worst nickname ever.
"Ok whatever. So umm how are we going to work on the project. Do you just want to stay after school?" I ask hoping he'll say yes. I do not want him to meet my family, my dad would freak and my mom will ask him a million questions. I don't feel like meeting his family either, I'm way too shy for that.
"Nah, I'd rather work at my place. Is that ok?" No.
"Yeah that's fine."
"Cool. Do you drive?"
"Yeah, but I don't have my own car and I doubt my mom will let me borrow hers for that long."
"Ok, I'll pick you up at 2 and then we can go shopping for our supplies sound good?" Before I can reply the bell rings. Brian doesn't need a reply I guess cause he just turns around and walks away before he walks out the door he yells "Bye Ray!!" I blush and wave to him.
Once I'm home I go up stairs and try to find something nice to wear tomorrow. Wow look at me, I'm such a loser. I'm picking out an outfit for the next day just so I can impress a guy. It's gonna take a lot more than an outfit for a guy to like me. Stop talking like this Rachel, you don't even like him anyways.
~~
I wake up to my phone vibrating, like a lot. I slip on my glasses and check to see who it is. It's Brian. Why is he messaging me at 3 in the morning?! What the heck?! Don't mess with my sleep dude.
Brian:
Oh. My. Augustus. I just finished the book. Rachel! I hate you. Why would you ever recommend this book to someone?!
I grin. He sent that at 2:30. He also sent multiple other messages.Brian:
Do you like to ruin people's life's? Do you want to see me suffer? I can't believe you.Brian:
Why did he have to die? 😫 He was such a good guy and he loved Hazel so much. Her speech to him was amazing. The whole book was!Brian:
Ray, answer your phone. I need to yell at you some more.At this point I'm smiling like crazy. I'm so happy he liked it enough to text me about it.
Me:
I'm glad you liked it. :) It's ok, you can admit that you cried. I did.Brian:
I balled my eyes out!
