Wedding Day

My hands were shaking. My knees were weak. "It's my wedding day," I whispered. I grabbed my bouquet and look at my reflection. I looked stunning. My make up was done wonderfully and my hair curled to perfection. My dress was gorgeous and fit me beautifully. The only thing that was wrong was my eyes. They showed my nervousness and the fear I felt. I shut my eyes tightly hoping that it would be gone when they opened again. I took a few deep breaths and let my mind drift for a few seconds. I thought of Matt and what our life is like now, before marriage. We're happy, comfortable, safe. Then I thought of what our life would be like once we're married. The first couple of years would be bliss, but then we'd end up miserable. We wouldn't be able to be ourselves, we'd slowly break down. I gulped and shook my head. 'You can't think like that,' I said to myself, 'You have to be positive.' I looked at myself again. The nervousness and fear were still there, but so was hope and love for my soon-to-be husband. I fixed my veil and stepped away from the mirror. I turned around and walked through the door into the hall. My dad was there waiting for me. I gave him a small smile and he returned it. "Are ready?" he asked. I closed my eyes and nodded. 'You can do this,' I told myself. We linked arms and he nodded to the guards. Once we were in position, the guards opened up the doors. The room was filled with light and you could sense the love in the radiating from everyone. Eyes were immediately on me, but I could only focus on Matt. He look handsome. His hair was slicked back and his suit looked amazing on him. I let my eyes drift over him for a moment until I looked at his face. His eyes were already on me. His eyes held so much love and devotion in them. He gave me his gorgeous smile and my heart melted. As I walked down the aisle, I looked at smiling faces of friends and family. I was almost to the alter, when a very large bark made me pause. Burnie. I laughed and looked in his direction. Burnie was the 'assistant' ring bearer. We wanted him to be a big part of the wedding since he was kind of the reason we met.
I finally made it to the alter and took a deep breath. I gave my bouquet to my maid of honor and held Matthew's hands. "I understand you two have written your own vows?" said the reverend. I nodded and reached for mine. "Mine is kind of short, but here it goes," I paused, "I will: pack you lunch, make the bed, always kiss you when you're mad. You will: catch spiders, get the mail, and hug me all the time. We will do these things because we love each other, because we take care of each other. I don't know what lies ahead for us, but I can't wait to go on the trip with you. I love you Matt." I looked at his reaction, his eyes were teary and he still had that beautiful smile on his face. Matt lifted up a piece of paper and unfolded it. "You're the peanut to my butter. You're the star to my burst. You're the milky to my way. You're the ice to my cream. You're the fruit to my loops. You're the ghetto to my booty. You're the best to my friend." Everyone chuckled and Matt continued, "I don't know a lot, but I know that I love you so much. I can't spend another day without you being my wife. I know that whatever problems we run into, we will work them out. I know that I can't live without you. I know that we were meant to be together. " I felt a tear slip down my cheek and I heard a few "aw's" in the crowd. "The rings please," requested the reverend. My 10 year old cousin walked to the alter with Burnie. He handed the rings to us and walked back to his spot. I grabbed Matthew's hand and placed his ring on his finger. Matt made a huge spectacle of putting the ring on, by bending down on one knee and making a small speech about the ring. We stared at each other until the reverend said, "I pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." Matt grabbed my waist and dipped me like in the movies. "I love you," he said then kissed me.
