I sat in the bathroom stall for what seemed like hours. My heart was pounding and my hands were shaking. He knew I couldn't stay in here forever, but he also knew that I would do whatever it takes to stay away from him. I heard the door open and held my breath. I could tell it was him by his heavy footsteps. "Come on out Alex," he said menacingly. I stayed still and closed my eyes. I heard a huge crash and jumped. 'He's kicking down doors,' I thought to myself. I heard another crash and let out a shaky breath. I could tell that he was getting frustrated. I could hear him mumbling to himself for a few seconds then it everything fell silent. I couldn't help my curiosity and I cracked open the door. "He's gone," I whispered. "Not quite," Matt replied. I turned around quickly and was met his with his smirking face.
I started to back away slowly, when his hand clamped down on my wrist. "No more running away," he commanded darkly and held my wrist tighter. I winced, but stayed still. He lifted his hand to my face and smack me. Although it wasn't hard enough to leave a bruise, I could tell that it would be sore. He threw me on the ground and I whimpered. "Next time, don't run away. Got it?" he yelled. I nodded my head and wiped a tear away. He laughed darkly and walked out. I sat there letting out silent cries. "I hate my life," I said to myself. I lifted myself off the floor and looked at my reflection. The side of my face was bright red. I groaned and laid my head on the counter. I grabbed a napkin and ran it under the cool water and held it to my face to try and bring the temperature down. I sat back down on the floor and waited.
I heard the bell ring and feet rushing in the hallway. I checked the time on my phone. '4:30, school's out.' I stood up and grabbed my stuff from the stall. I opened the door and was immediately grabbed. I opened my mouth to scream, but a hand covered it. I couldn't think straight and did the first thing that came to mind. I licked it. "Ew! That's so disgusting!" My best friend, Amanda, yelled. I let took a deep breath and spun around, "Sorry, I didn't know what else to do." She shook her head and laughed. "Where have you been? It's not like you to skip," she asked worriedly. I shrugged, "I got caught up in the bathroom, I guess." She looked at me curiously then glanced behind me. "Oh my, Matthew is staring at you!" Amanda screamed. I rolled my eyes and started walking to her car.
Amanda was sitting on her bed scrolling through her phone and rambling. I was staring in the mirror. 'If I looked different, would I get bullied?' I started a list of my physical flaws in my head. I was on #26, when Amanda yelled my name. I jumped and turned around. "Did you hear anything I was saying?" she questioned accusingly. I gave her a nervous smile, "Of course." She furrowed her eyebrows, "Are you lying to me?" We stared at each other for a few seconds for before we busted out laughing. We laid down on her bed as we calmed down. "I was saying that we should go to Matt's party tonight," Amanda said. I bolted up and turned in her direction. "Why would we do that?" I questioned. "Well, I think he has a crush on you," she said wiggling her eyebrows. I could hardly process what she was saying. 'He doesn't have a crush on me, he's my bully for goodness sake!' I thought. I shook my head and laid back down. "That's crazy," I replied. She shrugged and laid down, too.
We had spent hours arguing over whether or not Matthew had a crush on me. She finally let it go and decided to bug me about the party. "Come on, it'll be so much fun," she pleaded. I sighed, "I have nothing to wear." She squealed and ran to her closet. She came back out with a bundle of clothes and threw them on the bed. She started sifting through the clothes mumbling about shades of blue. I sat there watching her piece an outfit together. When she was finished, she grabbed my arm and dragged me to the closet to change. When I walked back out she pulled me to her vanity and started doing my hair and makeup. She poked and prodded my face for awhile then moved to my hair. She played with my hair, not knowing what to do with it, then she decided to curl it. When she was done she pulled me in front of the mirror and I was shocked. I couldn't even recognize myself. My hair was in loose waves and my makeup was flawless. The outfit was adorable. It was a long-sleeved, black and white striped crop top, a turquoise pleated skirt, and a white lace bow. Amanda changed and helped me pick out a pair of shoes, then we were off.
To say that Matt's house was crowded was an understatement. There were people everywhere. Some were even on his neighbors' lawns. Amanda let out a whistle, "Time to make new friends!" I sighed. 'Here we go,' I thought. We stepped out of the car and walked to the door, careful to avoid stepping on someone. Once we made it inside we made a game plan. "If something goes wrong, we have to find the other and leave. If one of us, meaning me, gets super drunk, the other one, meaning you, has to bring them home. Understood?," Amanda said. I nodded and that was Amanda's cue to get a drink. I walked to the couch and sat down. I had tuned everything out and just sat in my own little world. I felt someone sit next to me, but thought nothing of it. "Hi," greeted a familiar voice, snapping me out of my thoughts. I turned and saw Matt sitting there. He smiled at me and scooted closer. "I'm Matthew, nice to meet," he said. I stared at him confusingly, why doesn't he recognize me? Then I remembered the makeover Amanda gave me.
Matt and I had spent awhile talking. I didn't know why, but I didn't feel as scared around him as usually did. He suddenly stood up and pulled me with him to the dance floor. I normally didn't dance, but I felt comfortable enough with him. We danced and laughed together. His laugh was beautiful and wholesome. I had never seen this side of him before. After a few songs, we decided to get a drink. We chatted some more and asked each other questions, some goofy and some serious. "What's your name?" he asked. I gulped. I knew the question was coming up. He stared at me curiously. "Does it matter?" I answered. "Well I would like a name to go with that beautiful face." he replied. I blushed.
We sat there for minutes, him trying to get a name out of me. I couldn't tell him, it would ruin everything. I wanted him to know, but I didn't want this to end. I wanted to stay in this moment with him, but I knew he would find out soon enough. "How about this? If I give you a kiss, will you tell me?" he suggested. My eyes widened. "You don't have to do that," I tried to reason. "I could just-" I was cut of by his lips pressing to mine. I froze. 'He's kissing me! He's kissing me!' I screamed in my head. When he pulled away I still didn't move. "Alex. My name is Alex," I whispered. Then he did the strangest thing. He kissed me again.
