2 years later

"Did you really think you could escape me?" My brother asked as he stared down at me.

He took my arm and I pulled away.

"Don't touch me." I growled, backing away slightly.

"Oh, come now dearest sister-"

"I don't want to here it!" I said, looking up at him sadly. "I just want everything the way it was."

"It can be. If you just do what I say. All you need to do is kill the Musketeers and we can be the same family we were before." He said, softly and soothingly.

"I will never listen to you. And I will never kill my friends!"

Laddie looked down at me with disappointment.

"Then, I'll just do it for you." He said.

He held up a pair of guns and shot my friends right in front of me.

"NO!" I yelled.

I shot up with tears streaming down my face, breathing heavily. Aramis ran into my room with a lit candle in his hand. I looked up and ran to him. I wrapped my arms around him and let tears fall from my face.

"Same dream?" He asked while he stroked my hair in comfort.

I nodded and looked out the window.

"I fear it might actually come true." I said, pulling away and looking out the window. "I fear that he might actually be coming."

I sighed and watched as a late night carriage drove by our building. Aramis lay a hand on my shoulder.

"It'll be okay. We will do our best to keep him away from us."

I shook my head.

"You don't know him like I do." I said, looking down at the necklace in my hand. "When he wants something, he'll do anything to get it. Whether it's for the best, or for the worst." I held the gem close to my heart. "There is no escape from him."

Silence filled the room for the longest time.

"If he still wants the air ship," Aramis began, "we will have to get the plans before he does."

I looked up at him.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"The public has just released that Buckingham is close. He has grown extremely popular lately. I could only guess that he is after the plans."

"I wonder what has taken him so long to come here." I thought aloud.

I looked at the blue gleam of the gem in my hand. I looked back up at Aramis.

"When do we leave?" I asked.

"Tomorrow night. You'll be our distraction."

I put the necklace on my neck. Today was my sixteenth birthday. A flashback of my fourteenth birthday ran through my mind...

"What is it?" I asked.

"The perfect plan to get what I want." He responded.

I furrowed my eyebrows and picked up an image of a ship that was on a piece of paper. It had been modified to fly.

"We are going to steal the real plans. And then we will have the most amazing thing this world has ever seen." He said.

I looked up at him.

"We?" I asked.

"Yes. And we will destroy anyone who gets in our way."

"Destroy? Laddie..." I began, shaking my head.

"It's brilliant!" He said to himself.

I set the paper down and looked up at him.

"Laddie... I don't think this is a good idea." I told him, honestly.

"Why not? Maybe, we could even kill those filthy Musketeers!"

"Laddie? Where did all of this come from? What's happened to you?" I asked.

"I've shown my true colors, sister."

"This isn't the real you." I protested. "None of this is."

"How do you know what the real me is like?" He questioned, looking down at me.

"I've lived with you long enough to know who you are."

"Madeline, my sister. This could be everything for us."

"But we already have everything. Something has poisoned your mind, Laddie. I don't want any part in these plans you've got."

My brother looked down at me with a look I could not read.

"Then you can leave." He replied, softly.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Leave! And don't come back!"

"Madeline?" Aramis  asked, bringing me back to reality.

I blinked a few times and looked up at him.

"I'm sorry, we're you saying something?" I asked.

"Yes dear. I asked if you would be alright, but you didn't respond."

"Oh, I'm sorry. Yes I'll be fine. Thank you, Aramis."

Aramis nodded and left my room. I lightly stroked the blue jewel on my neck and looked out my window one last time. There was a bright light in a window. I looked into the window and saw a familiar face, staring back at me. Though his eyes were warming and kind, his jaw was clenched.

I looked into his eyes through the window and he looked into mine. He began to move towards the door, still looking at me but I shook my head. We stared for a while until a man behind the desk began talking to him.

My brother is so close. Closer than I thought. We will be meeting soon. But not now. I shut the curtains and went back to my bed.

Buckingham is in the building across from ours. I stared at the ceiling in thought until I got out of bed one last time and peered out the window. My brother saw me before he got into the late night carriage and rode away.
