He placed the perfectly white porcelain plate with the strawberry shortcake on top of the wooden four-legged table that wobbled unpromisingly and sat down across from Aeline.

"I'm really, really sorry I don't know what I was thinking, I just found you interesting, I don't even know what I'm saying, please just eat your cake and go, or don't I really, really don't know."

Aeline pondered over his face for a moment while dangling her metal fork in between her fore and middle finger. A small dollop of frosting fell off from the fork onto the table, which caused Zack to instinctively wipe it away with a paper napkin.

Everyone screws up. Some of us handle it well, and me and this stranger do not. That makes us even more screwed up, but it creates a weird bond that I don't have with anyone else.

It hurts me but I strangely like it.

"Please just say something or just eat your cake or tell me you enjoy it or something I'm- I'm just really sorry, if you want me to leave then I will,"

"Be quiet."

"What?"

"Be quiet. I like the sound of the tea leaving the pots, the sound of the cashier as he deposits the cash into the container." Aeline hooked a part of her turquoise hair behind her right ear which livened up her face which made Zack like her even more, which was bad because he kept telling himself that after this piece of cake he was never going to see her again.

He tried to listen like she did.

He tried to hear all the little sounds and tweaks and details that she heard, but all he could hear was her voice.

Her voice that rang in his head, and although it was only a few words, it stuck in his head and stayed there, creating a weird feeling that spread across his whole body, like a rippling effect in a pond.

"You know, I'm done with this cake but I'm not necessarily done with you." Aeline knew he took an interest in her, and although she didn't take an interest back, it might be fun for a while to toy with him a little and whatnot.

She clicked the pen that she always carried with her and scribbled her number on his hand. She giggled to herself even though he could hear it as well and smirked.

God, he liked it when she smirked.
