"Mommy! There's going to be a party!" Genne ran into her house and found her mother making bread.

"A party? What kind of party?" Her mother asked.

"A party at the castle! To celebrate Heretrua picking the flower! And the girl from the other world who picked it is going to be there. And everyone from our village is invited to come. Do you think we can go Mommy?"

"Slow down, I can hardly understand you." Genne's mother chuckled and Genne grinned. "Now, let's see if I've got this straight. "The king is throwing a party to celebrate our victory. Everyone is invited and you want to go. Is that right?"

"Yes, I want to go the castle with you! Wouldn't it be so much fun?"

"It would be buckets of fun, Genne. When is it?"

"In two days. Aldyth is taking Rosalie. There's going to be lots of food and music and dancing."

"And I suppose everyone will be dressed in their finest."

"Yes, it'll be beautiful!"

"What do you propose we wear?"

Genne cocked her head. "Oh. I forgot."

Her mother stopped kneading the dough and brushed off her hands to twirl Genne's hair. "You're beautiful no matter what. Maybe you should go along with Aldyth and Rosalie. I don't need to go."

"But you never get to have fun."

"That's not true. Every day is fun as long as I've got you."

"Which is why we should go together."

"You shouldn't have to stay here just because your mother doesn't have a dress."

"Then I'll find you one."

Genne's mother smiled. "Perhaps if we can get enough work done, I'll be able to go for a bit. Does that sound good?"

"Deal." Genne ran out the door again and her mother smiled softly as she finished her work.
