Dedicated to JehanneTheELSS because you inspired me to continue writing this story. You got me off my butt today. Thanks for being wonderful.
It's B day. Blah. Okay well at least I have lunch. Lunch is always so dependable. Lunch is the best. How many minutes? NO!!! 48?! HOW? *exasperated groan*. Face to palm.
This paper is useless to me. This will not help me. Why am I here? Oh yeah, cuz I need to get into college and then do useful things. Okay. What did I learn? 1. How to pay close attention to detail 2. How to distinguish separate organisms in one petri dish. Yeah, that sounds pretty good.
I nod my head in approval and scribble it down. I take out my book and take out my ideas notebook. It's just full of random quotes or bursts of inspiration I get. I write on and on about the population as a whole and how we are all weird and normal people and weird. So basically, normal is weird and weird is normal. I want to make a book. For myself.
The bell rings. This always happens. Oy. I have to sit with Angie and her weirdo friends. It's fine. Wow, people are so rude. Just screaming in your ear and jumping around like they're unicorns. They're not cool enough.
I walk out of the lessened crowd and see Angie sitting on the ground. No one notices her. She's looks pretty much lifeless. What am I supposed to do?
I walk up and crouch down next to where she's sitting, against a bunch of lockers. I sitting down criss cross and just look at her. I think the best solution is to always hug someone. No empathetic stare. No "awww, what's wrong?". Just a hug. I wrap one of my arms around her back and the other I just leave to my side. We just sit there as she sniffles and gaines back the life in her eyes. She starts to get up and I help her up.
"Do you want to sit with your friends today?"
She looks at me with red eyes and puffy cheeks. Her glasses have smudges on them. She chuckles. "Better not."
"Okay. Where do you want to go?"
"To infinity and beyond. That's not a place is it?"
"Ha. No. Unfortunately, it's not."
"Well, then, this is just an unfortunate series of events."
To make a series of unfortunate events, you need to be Lemony Snicket or Count Olaf. Either that or you just have a lot of bad things going on around the same time. Takes a genius to figure that out.
I just look around and decide to just say that we can go around town. She agrees by nodding. As we get out of the school stealthily, well not really, because people just assume we have free passes and don't give us a second glance, we get into my black mazda.
"So, what happened this morning?"
She mumbles, "Or this lifetime."
"I totally heard that. What's happening?"
"Well, my family is a little messed up. They always argue and it hurts. They make you feel like nothing. Like you're useless. You don't matter. I don't feel loved like people are supposed to feel in a family. People are supposed to feel safe. That's not happening. It's been going on for so long. Everyone's been mad for so long and I'm just fed up and sad."
"I can't sympathize with that but I can understand the whole being alone thing."
"Really? Can you? You're always surrounded by laughing and happiness." Her face showed jealousy, confusion and disbelief.
"Yeah. My mom is rarely home, she calls to check up one daily but that sometimes brings more attention to the house and things instead of me. My friends at school, well, I only have two."
"I'm sorry."
"Why? You of all people know that sympathy makes you feel worse."
"No. I'm sorry that you and me have to live in this world full of people who don't care about others and don't realize the pain they cause others. And when they do, they either smirk out of enjoyment, feign innocence, or continue."
I just nod, knowing the truth. We haven't even moved from our spot in the car which is in the school parking lot. Guess we just needed a break from people who don't care. Honestly, if people admitted they didn't understand, I wouldn't be so upset with this life. With my life.
A/N: Wow. This got deep and emotional. But this chapter had to be done to give them emotional strength, bonds... you get it. Thanks for reading and I'll try to update more. Until next time, bye!
