Mere minutes after robin' announcement the zeta beam loudly announced batman's arrival

"Batman b01"

The entire team quickly jumped into more attentive positions. Without a word batman briskly walked into the briefing room. Most superheroes had to yell to gather all the sidekicks attention. They all acted like navy seal drill sergeants whenever they had a mission to discuss with them.

Not batman. He had the opposite effect. He spoke with a low voice, quiet and succinct.  He never needed to raise it  because everyone in the room was always already paying attention to him. Robin in particular seemed to be hanging on to Batman's every word. He basically worshiped the guy.

It bothered Artemis how much Robin liked him. Sure batman demanded respect. Everyone respected him. But very, very few people actually liked him. He was to cold for that. Anyone with a decent brain on their shoulders should know not to actually like batman. It was probably because robin hadn't had enough real world experience to now when someone was going to hurt him.  Artemis had a knack for being able to tell when people had faced trauma in their life; she could tell robin hadnt.

It was probably why he left Mt justice at 6 o clock sharp each day while most of the rest of them stayed there. Needed to be back in time for family dinner. She wondered what sort of trick batman had pulled in order to be able to drag him out of his nice loving home for training each day.

".... its immperative you all succeed in the tasks i assign you. " said Batman

With a start Artemis realized that her time spent speculating had made her miss the beginning of the lecture. Not a great way to start the mission.

" Our intelligence on Wayne Manor in Gotham city suggests that a robbery attempt will be made at the Wayne's Annual Gala tomorrow night. Normally Id just notify the authorities, but Bruce Wayne's situation is a bit more unique. As one of the Justices Leagues main weapon suppliers his manor contains quite a bit of...sensitive information."

KF's hand shot up. Batman glanced at him with a exasperated expression. "Yes Kid Flash?"

"You mean to tell me Bruce Wayne, gothams biggest playboy, actually deals with something as important as supplying the Justice League? I thought he just sat around with girl counting his money all day..."

Batman sighed loudly. "That does seem to be a large portion of Mr. Wayne's schedule as far as our contacts can tell."

Artemis honestly couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or not. The man was impossible to read.

"Mr. Wayne believes that he's invested in weapon systems for the US army. My contacts discreetly reroute all the supplies to Justice League headquarters. He cant know what his money money and technology is actually being used for. understand."

He glared at all of them till they were shaking their heads vigorously.

"Kalduran you're job will be to monitor the perimeter of the manor. Meegan and Superboy, I want you in the basement of the manor standing guard at the armament. "

They all nodded firmly and responded with a quick, "yes sir."

"Kid Flash I want you within two seconds range of Wayne at all times.  Im asigning you to him because it be odd for a young man to stay close to wayne throughout his Gala. Especially while he's socializing with the cities elite. I know your fast enough to get to him almost immediately but still while staying within a 100 foot range so I want you stationed there at all times."

"Sure thing." replied KF.

"Artemis, you'll be guarding Wayne's son Richard Greyson. Youre around his age so it wont be odd if you just stay next to him through out the party. He'll be notified that you will be his undercover gaurd during the evening"

An audible groan escaped her lips and batmans eyes narrowed in her direction.

"Sorry!" she quickly responded. "Its just..do I have to watch him? I just want everything to go smoothly and im sure I'd be much more effective with kaldur or meegan."

The way batman looked at her disapprovingly made it imediately apparent that he saw right threw her thinly veiled lie. But who could blame her! She spent her whole highschool days going to class with preppy spoiled kids. Richard Grayson was sure to be the worst of them. Even if everyone at school seemed to genuinely find him a good guy...

"Can I trust you to watch Richard Artemis? If not I can find someone else."

"Why dont you just have Robin watch him?" she asked genuinely curious. "I can do it but he just seems like the better guy for the job."

"Robin and i have our own seperate mission to deal with at Bludhaven tomorrow. We'll be infiltrating the base of the men who were hired out to kill Wayne and steal the technology. "

Now she really wanted robins job. That sounded way more fun than standing next to some stranger at a party all night.
