Artemis was surprised at how good a dancer richard was. But maybe she shouldnt have been. He did seem to be much more athletic than she initially expected. A lot of things had suprised her about richard. He was smart, witty, and genuinely kind, especially to some stranger he wasnt ever going to see again. She got along so well with him it already felt like they'd been friends for ages.

But she couldnt ever actually be friend with him. His life was way to perfect and neat, and hers was...not. I mean she came here wearing the dress of her deserted mother and the necklace of some guy cheshire may or may not have killed.

Still, she leaned her head on his chest and just resolved to enjoy the night while it lasted. For just a bit she could pretend to be a normal happy teenager, rather than an archer constantly parading around as some tough superhero,  but was really just scared and lonely.

She glanced around the room and made eye contact with Wally. He raised an eyebrow at her dancing with Richard and she blushed furiously. He was never going to let her hear the end of this.

Another glance around the room showed Bruce Wayne. He seemed to be in some sort of drinking contest, with two beautiful women wrapped around each arm. "You know you're a lot like your dad as far as looking like him ...but he doesnt seem nearly as..academically inclined as you." Richard glanced over to the corner where Bruce was embarrassing himself. He sighed loudly.

"He's actually an incredibly smart guy. He just..well he just doesnt tend to let people know what he's really like. And im suprised you think I look like him. You know his not my biological dad right? Im adopted."

Artemis pulled her head up and looked in richards eyes. Adopted huh. She never would have guessed.

"What were your birth parents like?" she asked.

"They were great. Amazing people, and some of the world best gymnasts. We worked in a circus together when I was younger."

"What happened?" she asked before realizing it was probably a tense subject.

"They were killed in front of me when I was 10. Bruce took me in after it happened. Something pretty similiar happened to him and his parents."

Artemis gasped. She never would have guessed the man in front of her had been through something so terrible. He seemed to always be so happy. And he didnt have that hard edge she had come to sense in people who had been through trials like that.

"Im so sorry Richard!" she began.

"Its ok. I have a great family now. And Ill see them again." he smiled at her.

They danced in silence for a few more minutes and the band announced there last song. He began to lean his head toward her...when RING.

Her card began to buzz loudly. Of all the worst timing!

"Im sorry, Ill be right back!" she said mortified. She rushed off to another room where she could speak to whoever was calling her.
