The wind blew across Kirsten's body, lightly swaying her curly, blond locks of hair and bright yellow dress. She watched as the waves crashed into the distance.
The beautiful body of water, known as the Pacific Ocean, was one of Kirsten's most favorite things in the world. The way it glistened from the moon's radiant light was a sight for soar eyes. It was indeed gorgeous during the day, but there was just something about the midnight hour that made the sea look even more stunning.
Kirsten slowly lowered her body to lie upon the soft grains of sand. Her fingers began to dig through, feeling the moistness leftover by the water's tide. Never in her life would there be another night like this, for today was the day that Kirsten Lawrence turned eighteen-years-old.
It was without a doubt a day to celebrate, but a day to morn as well. Kirsten closed her eyes, struggling to hold back the tears that threatened to come. Her parents had passed away ten years ago during the alien attack of 2012. She remembered much of her dear mother and father, but there was only so much to remember being the fact that she was only eight when they passed.
Kirsten's eyes suddenly popped open when she heard her name being called. She quickly grabbed her sandals and Mountain Dew and sprinted towards the house. Once she reached the front door, she released her sandals allowing them to fall to the wooden floor.
"I am here Aunt Mel!" Kirsten yelled, waiting for both a reply from her aunt and an explanation as to why she had interrupted her moment of peace and quiet. When she didn't hear a response, her eyebrows furrowed and she began to make her way through the house looking for her mischievous aunt.
"Aunt Mel? What did you want?" Kirsten suddenly gasped as she turned the corner and saw an unexpected surprise.
"Surprise!" All of her friends and family yelled in unison holding balloons, birthday gifts, and a delicious looking white cake. Kirsten smiled and placed a hand over her mouth in an attempt to hide her joy from the cameras. She knew that her family always threw her parties on her birthday, but this was the last thing that she expected, even her grandparents from London were here to celebrate.
"Well, come on everybody, aren’t we going to sing happy birthday to the young lady?" Her grandmother spoke in her strong British accent and then proceeded to lead everyone in song.
As everyone sang, the smile on Kirsten's face began to grow wider and all she could do was try to hide the blush that decided to appear on her cheeks. Once the torture was over, Kirsten began to make her way towards the cake. She closed her eyes, pretending to make a wish, and then proceeded to blow out all of her candles. Everyone cheered and the party began.
Kirsten glanced around the room trying to take in her surroundings. Most of her friends were over twenty-one, so there was defiantly no shortage of alcoholic beverages. Suddenly, Kirsten spotted someone in the crowd that she least expected to show up, her boyfriend Raymond.
"Ray!" She yelled as she ran towards him nearly knocking him over as they collided. "What are you doing here? You are supposed to be in Australia with Kali." Ray shrugged his shoulders and smiled at her.
"We decided that your eighteenth birthday was more important than Australia." Kristen gave him a confused look.
"We?" Ray chuckled and turned around revealing Kalisha, one of Kirsten's oldest and most dear friends. "Kali?!" She said they both embraced each other. "I haven't seen you in years! How have you been? How's Australia?" Kali smiled and grabbed her friend's hands not wanting to let go of her.
