"My roommate? What about him?" Tanaka tried his best to pretend he had no idea what Noya was talking about over the phone, but he could practically hear the smaller boy roll his eyes.

"You know what I'm talking about."

"I uh-- I don't."

"Ugh-- Is he hot?"

Tanaka looked across his new dorm at the dark haired boy lying on his bed, reading his book.

His name was Chikara Ennoshita, and he was the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. His voice was calming and sweet and quiet, and his eyes were this pretty, dark color, and his hair was neat and cute and simple, and he always gave Tanaka a polite smile whenever their eyes met-- and their eyes met a lot.

But Tanaka turned away from the boy and said into his phone, "No."

There was a tiny silence, and suddenly, "For some reason, I don't believe you."

"I mean, he's more cute than hot. You know? He has cute eyes and cute hair and cu--"

"Yeah, yeah I get it-- did you talk to him?"

"No??"

"Why not?"

"He's too cute." Tanaka was hoping Ennoshita was too busy with his book, or didn't care enough to listen to their conversation on the phone. When he looked over, he was being his usually unbelievably beautiful self and Tanaka had to turn away because he was already caught staring at him thirty seven times in the two weeks they've been rooming together. "He's so cute and it's intimidating."

"God, you're even gayer than I thought," Noya sighed. "Just try talking to him. Get to know him?"

"The very thought terrifies me out of my own skin."

"You can do it, Ryuu! I believe in you!"

Noya hung up quickly, but Tanaka could only sigh through his nose and stare up at the ceiling.

Yeah, I can't do this.

College so far was just as Ennoshita expected it to be, really-- all the same. He learned stuff that probably wasn't even important, played volleyball, and ate a lot of Greek yogurt, no different from high school.

Except there's Tanaka.

Now, Tanaka isn't bad at all. He's sweet and dorky, and that's the main reason he hates the guy.

Well, he wants to hate him.

Instead, he finds himself being drawn to him and his funny, quirky character. And his muscles. And his smile. His bright, crooked smile that could outshine the sun.

He didn't need this. He didn't need this pretty smile and nice laugh and hilarious attitude-- he just needed to study, get a job, and be succesful.

But yeah-- things don't like to go his way.

"I'm baaack!"

Ennoshita's book jumps from his hand and lands on the already dirty dorm floor. "Oh-- hi!"

It's been over two godamned weeks since they first met, Ennoshita should at least be able to look at his smile without feeling warm and tingly and weird.

"I was able to stop for food on the way home, d'you want any noodles?"

"Sure," Ennoshita croaks out, sitting up quickly. "Thanks."

Tanaka hands him a plastic bag with food and flops down immediately onto his bed, backpack and all with a groan. "Classes suck."

"I mean, they're kinda boring, but not that bad." Ennoshita grabs his book off the floor, avoiding staring at Tanaka as he takes off his backpack and sweatshirt lazily. It's hot in the dorms, and Ennoshita is surprised that Tanaka hasn't taken his shirt off yet.

No, he's disappointed that he didn't.

"Well yeah, but that's because you're smart."

"I bet you're pretty smart too, Tanaka."

Tanaka lifts his head from the bundle of blankets and clothes on his bed and says, "Nope!"

Ennoshita rolled his eyes, trying to ignore the fact that Tanaka was obviously looking at him. "Well, if you're really that dumb I could help you study."

His eyes lit up and Tanaka sat up immediately, so quick Ennoshita was worried he'd hurt himself. "Really?"

"Yeah, why not?" It's not like I'm asking to date you or anything.

I'm saving that for later.

Somehow, Ennoshita ended up cringing at his own thoughts while Tanaka got overexcited about studying.

They might've been the two strangest roommates ever.
