A "Casual" Date

As I awoke the next morning, I yawned and stretched out my arms lazily. I stood from my bed and fixed my boxers then turned to my dresser. It was finally a sweet Saturday of relaxation. I had a date that day with Theo that I was beyond excited for. He wouldn't tell me a thing, insisting it all be a surprise. The thought he put into it was sure to make him only look sweeter than I already saw him as, which was quite sweet already.

I texted Theo to let him know I was up then went to shower myself. I dressed myself in casual but not lazy clothes, a dark blue-green button up, a white undershirt and a pair of dark wash jeans. It was casual but I didn't look like a slob, not that I would ever let someone see me in such a state as that anyway. I took great pride in making myself presentable everyday. I got complimented for never dressing up or dressing down, rather dressing perfect for each day's events. I could look good in pictures and also look like I'm having fun without being seen as a partier or a stiff. Just your average seventeen year old out and about.

I wasn't the type to wear makeup so I never took long to get ready in the mornings, as for my dyed blue hair, I just used sculpting gel and ran my hands through my hair, spiking it up. It was a dark blue so it didn't stick out like a sore thumb, it could almost be seen as black, which was my natural hair colour anyway.

I checked my phone and saw a response from Theo saying good morning. He said he would be there to get me in fifteen minutes so I went about eating a bagel quickly and brushed my teeth. I went ahead and put on my shoes and stood outside after locking the door, mom wouldn't be home till later anyway so I didn't bother asking about going out.

When Theo arrived I ran over and jumped into his arms happily. He chuckled and rustled my hair around.

"Hey! I told you not to do that! If you do, my hair will stick up in weird directions because of the gel." I lightly smacked his hands away from my hair in a joke brawl. "I have a specific style for how I wear it, remember?" Sticking my tongue out at him, I suddenly jump from the feeling of him grasping my hand.

"Enough about your hair, how about we hold hands on our way to the mall. We can go look at games and stuff, get ice cream, then we are going to see a movie. Okay?" Theo grinned at me as I gaped at him.

He wasn't the romantic type so this was a new experience, it excited me greatly. I could hardly hold back my glee as we headed down the sidewalk to the mall.

In the mall there was a game store, it sold board games, card games, graphic novels, action figures, you name it and they had it. It was a nerd paradise, or so I called it at least. It was a pleasant place to spend hours. There was a backroom where kids played the games and we decided to check out a game they were playing. They invited us in and so we played a few rounds. We had a good round of laughs, but after an hour of playing Theo insisted we go. We waved goodbye to the younger players and walked out. As we left we were called out to by two young girls, sisters.

"Hey, you said your name was Jonas right? Would you like to join us for another game sometime?" One of the sisters said happily. I nodded and so we exchanged skype names as Theo eyed me curiously.

After the girls left, Theo wrapped an arm around me. "You get along with kids well, that's good to know."

"They were only two years younger, Theo? Not kids." I rolled my eyes and grinned. He seemed to be acting rather mushy all day. Not that I would complain in the slightest. He seemed to drop the topic there and so I did as well.

We continued on our date after, heading to Dairy Queen for ice cream. I had my usual Oreo blizzard, and Theo had some concoction of chocolate and caramel.

When we were done we headed to the theatre and bought tickets for some new movie based off a comic book series I wasn't familiar with but the reviews online were alright.

We watched the movie in silence taking in every moment but my focus broke when I felt Theo's hand rest just a little above my knee. I could feel myself blush to my ears and blinked rapidly. I tried to pay attention but I kept glancing over to him. A few times we made eye contact and he smiled warmly at me. I placed my hand over his and smiled back. Today was a splendid day, we were finally acting like a couple.

Once the movie finished Theo offered to walk me home and I accepted graciously. While we walked we were once again holding hands with our fingers interlocked. The air was breezy but I payed no mind to the cold. A warm, cozy feeling coated my body the whole way home. When we arrived at my house I didn't want to let go. But I knew that he wouldn't be able to stay since I had a study session tomorrow.

"I had so much fun today, next time let me treat you to dinner okay?" I said to him happily. Today, Theo insisted on paying for everything as usual, which flustered me but he would mope if I disagreed. "Thank you for taking me out."

"No worries, I enjoyed it." Theo smiled back at me and we shared a farewell embrace. We slowly pulled apart and Theo used a hand to brush stray hairs away from my eyes. "Wish we could've spent tomorrow together too."

"Well I mean not unless you plan to study stuff you already know." I chuckled at him and patted his cheek reassuringly. He placed his hand over mine, keeping it on his cheek. As he drew closer to me my eyes naturally fluttered close, knowing what was going to happen next.

Our lips touched for a moment, not a short moment but it wasn't too long either. It was a kind and gentle first kiss. My heart raced as he moved away, a weird expression in his eyes.

"T-Theo?" I asked in concern, my voice stuttering slightly as I spoke. "You didn't have to do that if you weren't-"

"No, it was about time... Sorry I'll go now. Good night, Jonas." With a single wave he left without another word and I stood speechless. His tone was some how sad when he said goodbye and it made me worry.

I went inside and headed to my room. I undressed and crawled into bed distraught. Did I do something wrong? Was Theo mad at me about something? It was at that moment my phone buzzed and I glanced down.

Zeke: I expect date details tomorrow!

As I was typing a response, telling him to shut up and let me sleep I got another text. I deleted the one I was typing and opened the new one.

Theo: Don't worry yourself I'm alright. I can tell you were concerned, I'm tired today. Work shifts have been long so don't blame yourself. Good night, sleep well we can talk tomorrow.

Sighing out a breath of relief, I decided to sleep away my worries. I turned off my phone without responding to the two and went to sleep.

A stressful day awaited me.
