Chapter 1- //
So I wanted another ShinRan fanfic, but it appears I've read all of them, so I simply wrote my own! YAY! Enjoy!
There it was again, a blank, emptiness laid on the glint of her eyes. "Geez, Ran, just get over him already. There are PLENTY fish in the sea!" Sonoko, Ran's best friend forever exclaimed; fed up with Ran's yearly depressions around this time of the year. "Not like Shinichi..." Ran said, her voice muffled by the pillow she'd barring it in. It was valentine's day coming up, and Sonoko knew what that meant. Hot guys! Or in Ran's case, having her mind set on the detective freak like a broken record. (Not like she wasn't like that ALL the time.) Sonoko sighed loudly, "Ran, you're a beautiful girl who has luck with the guys just choose one, and your good to go!" He best friend told Ran, making her rise to her feet and stomp out the room. Sonoko on instincts followed after her to the kitchen where Ran began cooking herself some hot cocoa; It always calmed her nerves. "Ran, don't run away like that, I'm just trying to help." Sonoko pleaded jokingly. Conan, who was reading over Mouri's shoulder just a second ago walked over to his two former classmates when heard the commotion, "Ran-nee-chan, what's going on?" He asked using his childish voice, Sonoko looked down at the boy and choose to answer for her friend, "Ran is being stubborn and will not take my advice." The young detective rose a brow, "On what?" "My love life, and honestly it's really not a big deal. So PLEEEASE don't make it so." Ran cut in, giving Sonoko warning glances. This only catched Conan's interest even more, Ran's love life was quite... Um... Important -for no practical reason- to him. Deciding to use a innocent smile, the mystery nerd spoke,
"Ran-nee-chan, are you going out this Valentine's day?" He asked, making Ran's expression fall cold. She harshly throws her mug back onto the counter, and smiles hollowly, "Nope, I'm a free woman, Conan-kun." She says in a sing-song voice, Sonoko and Conan looked at her with worried (Kinda freaked out) faces. And with that, the karate master turns her back to the two and pours the boiling water into her mug. Sonoko could tell he hit a nerve, but she didn't think twice to the fact that it might've been done on purpose. Ran ignored their curious gazes, and continued making her chocolate drink. But eventually it was too much for, she spun on her heel to face them, a fire in her eyes glowing bright, "Please do tell me if you have a date, Sonoko?" Ran asked feeling the need to turn the tables, Sonoko only rolled her eyes in response. Ran glared daggers then instead bent to Conan's eye level, "How about you, Conan-kun? Got a date this Valentine's day??" She grinned at his burning red face deviously. Conan's expression burst into surprise to utter embarrassing blushing, his eyes darting from anywhere but meeting his childhood friend, "O-Of course not! I'm only 8!" He exclaimed a bit too loud for comfort. Ran grinned at him a stood, wearing a proud satisfied look, "See, is it really that's weird for me not to have any date on this day??" Ran announced, crossing her arms over her chest as if it were a mic drop.
Sonoko sighed heavily, "Yes, BUT, might I remind you that you have Kudo Shinichi." She reminded while poking her in the ribs. "That's right." Conan mumbled without realizing the two teenage girls had heard him. Ran looked horrified by his comment, "N-n-n-NO I DON'T! Who'd like that detective freak anyways?! If he like's anyone it's those stupid Holmes books!" She exploded angrily, and ran to her room abandoning her fresh mug of Cocoa. Sonoko sighed once again and glanced curiously at the young detective, she was surprised to find a seriously worried regretful expression; it was oddly mature. "What's wrong Conan-kun?" Sonoko asked, finding that this boy has always acted a bit off. He simply smiles at Sonoko innocently, "Oh Nothing!" He exclaims before running after Ran. Sonoko tilted her head to the side, and was about to go after them when she got a phone call from the guy she wanted a date with, so with an excited shriek Sonoko ran off and out of the house leaving a note for Ran.
