Missing Life

My eyes flutter open as I take in my new surroundings. White walls, sheets, floors, and curtains. Lizzy is sitting in a chair across the room passed out. I hear the sky rumble and cry. I listen to the howl of the wind trying to shatter the windows. I hear the slow beep of my heart rate monitor. It is all peaceful till the power goes out and alarms begin to sound. I can barely hear my scream over the sirens. "Lizzy what is going on!?" I try to call out. Lizzy wobbles over to me sleepily calling to me asking, if I am all right. I try to reply over the loud sirens. I nod giving up on yelling since she can't hear me.

Minutes later after my head being beaten around the emergency power turns on. The alarms turn of and dim lights blink in the hallway. "What happened?"

"The power tower got struck and we lost power. Everything will be ok."

"How did I get here? Where is Mr. Drew?"

"We brought you here." I look around to find where that came from and in the corner I see Officer Hailey. She gets up off the windowsill and walks over to me. Officer Hailey has changed into different clothes then I met her in. "Officer Hailey Woods, where is Mr. Drew?"

"You can call me Hailey, and Mr. Drew is at the police station."

"Why? What did he do wrong?"

"He locked you up in a cave in the middle of nowhere." We all turn to the door when we here a knock. There is a little girl standing in the door way waiting to be invited in. Lizzy waves her in and she stands right next to me and starts crying when she looks me. "Hi Si sissy its m m me Es Esther." I filter through everything I remember and I don't find her anywhere. "Melody this is your sister, she has been waiting in an orphanage hoping you would come and find her."

"I am sorry Esther, I don't know who you are." Esther stops crying and pulls out of her pocket a picture and in it is her and Esther and an older boy holding both of us. I point to the boy. "That is Joey, he couldn't come. He is at school." I stare at the picture and finally remember my brother and sister. We were in separable and we lived in the orphanage for all I can remember. "A woman came to adopt you a few months after we got sent there. She did not want all three of us." She pulled out a picture of the woman and handed it to me. She had dark blond hair and brown eyes. Images flash through my mind but, I can't pick out a single one. I see Mr. Drew in some of them holding the woman's hand. We look so happy until the images stop, blood is all over my hands and the woman is laying on the ground motionless. Mr. Drew is standing in the background crying, staring at me in horror. I hear the door creak open and the image disappears. The nurse walks to the bed and motions everyone out of the room, "Wait please don't send Esther away." I look at the nurse with water in my eyes she nods and Esther comes back in at holds my hand and smiles happy that I remember her. "Melody you will be able to leave in the morning. You just need to get some rest before then. Are you hungry?" I nod and she presses a button on her ear and says can someone get food to room 245. She walks over to the bag of liquid and injects something in to it with a needle. The liquid turns pink and goes through a tube into my arm. The door opens up and I smell very interesting smells. I look over to the cart and on it is a tray of food. The nurse pushes it over and on top of me and leaves. On the tray is Jell-O, orange juice, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a bread roll.
