Ryner's hazel eyes stared blankly at his computer screen, according to his email his fraternal twin brother was on his way home. Ryner was excited to see his brother in person after three years. Brady had made the decision to join the Peace Corp, after realizing life was more than just living it up on the inheritance they got from their grandfather. Ryner applauded his older brother for making such a choice.
Ryner and his brother only had one thing in common besides sharing the womb and it was their eyes. Brady was a semi curly blonde; He was outgoing, overly confident and a womanizer. Ryner had dark brown straight locks. He was also a lot quieter than Brady; he was shy and hung out in the background as his brother soaked up the spotlight. It had always been that way with those two, sacrificing his happiness for others was nothing new for Ryner. A shy smile slid on to his lips when he picked up the framed picture on his desk. The light brown skin woman, was smiling at the two years old little boy in her arms; his skin two shades lighter than his mother's, his smile bright and the sunshine shown just how brown his short curly hair was. That day the three of them went to the park, he fell more in love with her that day. With her dressed in a fitted blue plaid shirt and blue shorts, she topped it off with her shoulder length black hair in pigtails. He joked and told her she looked like a black Daisy Dukes, she laughed and stuck her tongue out at her. The little boy who wanted to dress like Ryner that day in brown squad cargo shorts and a white t-shirt; he kid was adorable. Ryner sat the photo back down when a knock came from his office door.
"Come in." The love of his life walks in; he quickly shut his laptop as she rounded the desk and sat onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist and he leaned his head on her shoulder.
"Hey, you shut that computer kind of quick. You were looking at something inappropriate?" She teased; Ryner chuckled, and looked up at her face.
"Please, those women have nothing on you." She arched an eyebrow in a mocking matter.
"So you admit it was something naughty?" She turned in his lap, and began to re-open the device, he stopped her.
"No, it wasn't. But I rather tell you what it was." Lazily he twisted at the ringer on her finger, Jenna was his wife.
"Brady is coming home." Jenna frowned.
"What?" Ryner took a deep breath and glanced at the pain and saddens that flicked in her eyes. Jenna wasn't just his wife she was his brother ex-girlfriend and mother of Brady's child; Avery.
Ryner sat on the kitchen counter sipping at the beer in his hands as he watched Jenna frost the chocolate cake. She hadn't said much since he told her about Brady. She was surprisingly calm about the whole thing, she and Avery took a trip to the grocery store, even came back to fix up the guest room for Brady. Now that Avery was preoccupied in his room, Ryner seized this moment to talk to her.
"Jenna, are you ok?" She didn't look up from the cake.
"Of course I am." He hopped down, placed his beer on the counter and approached her.
"Jenna if you're not comfortable with him being here, say so." She placed the frosting knife down, and smiled up at him.
"Ry, I'm fine ok. I promise. This is your brother, your twin brother. I would never interfere with that relationship. Now stop fussing, and go set the table, while I go check up on Avery." She washed and dried her hands and left the kitchen.
Ryner hoped she was; before Brady left for the Corp. He had chosen to end his and Jenna relationship by finding someone else. She was heartbroken even most when she found out she was pregnant."She's six weeks pregnant Brady." Ryner blurted out, he did not want to see this drug out anymore. Jenna's head dropped in shamed and Brady choked on his beer, he sat the beverage down on the coffee table.
"She's what?" He first asked his brother, and redirected it to the raven haired woman who was now softly crying to herself.
"You're what?"
"Brady.." Brady held his hand up to stop his brother from speaking.
"Ryner I'm asking her. I need to hear it from her." He leaned forward with his elbows on his knees.
"Jenna, is it truth?" She said nothing, and kept her head down. Brady rose from his sit and knelt down in front of her. Ryner moved and claimed Brady's abandon sit.
Taking her chin in his hand, Brady lifted her glance to meet his. She shivered from his touch she hadn't felt in the last two days.
"I'm sorry," She whispered. "I didn't mean for this to happen." after taking in a shaky breath he hugged her, she cried harder into his shoulder; he stroked her hair and closed his eyes absorbing the information.
