I Waited For You(Book One)

Part 3

After Jenna left the house, she drove for ten minutes, before she pulled over on side of the road; she gripped the steering wheel tightly and leaned her head against it.
She felt guilty. Old feeling had appeared when she saw Brady again. His hazel eyes, though they were like Ryner; still caused her heart to seize in her chest. His devilish grin even now stirred her body to react. She squeezed her eyes tight while the tears forced its way through.

For Jenna breakfast never seem so long, Avery keep with most of the conversation. Brady laughed and chatted with the toddler, he peeked up in her direction beaming; then turned back to the child.
Jenna quickly picked up her orange juice and took a deep drink. If only he never cheated on her, broke up with her and then left the country. This could have been a normal routine for them. Breakfast as a family.
After the meal, Avery hopped down from his chair and ran off to play with his toys in the living room. Brady collected the plates and sat them in the sink.
"Thanks for breakfast Jenna, it was great." She smiled and nodded not trusting herself to speak.
"Jenna?" Goosebumps crawled over her, the way he called out to her reminded her of the intimate moments between them.
"I know this is hard for you, and honestly this is hard for me also. I was an ass back then but I did care for you. And my leaving was probably the best for the both of us, for all three of us. I would have made a bad father and even worse husband. Ryner was the best choice for you and Avery." His hands held onto her upper arms, he bent down slightly to catch her eyes with his and stood straight again.
"Hey, Ry loves you Jenna. I put my baby brother through enough grief, I don't want him to feel like he has to play buffer between us. If there are any feelings you still harbor for me, Jenna..."
"I get what you are trying to say Brady, but I was really in love with you. That dream of a relationship we had, ended so fast, without notice. Then to find myself pregnant with your child and you leaving and then me marrying Ryner.." She swallowed hard to push back the emotion that choked her.
"..and giving birth to Avery, seeing so much of you in him. I wasn't allowed time to sort through my feelings properly. So yea maybe there is something still there, I don't know. But for Ryner I would like to try and put him at easy." Brady raised his hands to brush the tears that fell on her cheeks with his thumbs.
The air left her lungs when he smiled, "Thank you." He kissed her forehead, and left to play with Avery. Leaving her alone in the kitchen.

It was late when Jenna returned home. The house was quiet; she was a bit relived thinking everyone was asleep. But that was short lived when she stop at the doorway of the kitchen. Ryner was seating at the counter, his head nested on his arms. Jenna wasn't sure if he was asleep or not, he was in fact dressed in his pajamas His microfleece blue bottoms, meeting his plain white t-shirt, his feet bare placed on the bar between the chairs legs. The temptation to retreat up the stairs was vetoed as he lifted his head. He sprung up from his seat when he saw her.
"Jenna," He called out. "I was getting worried." Her tired eyes gazed into his, but she couldn't hold his stare. She didn't deserve to. Shifting her feet, then nodded.
"I didn't mean to make you worry. We should get to bed." She turned to leave he quickly stopped her, His arms wrapped around her, his face buried in her shoulder.
"I'm sorry." Jenna's throat tightened; why was he the first to apologized, instead of just letting it go. Guiltily she tapped at his hands, prompting for a release.
"It's fine, Ryner-" He tucked her tighter.
"No, it isn't. Since I said those things to you, I held this stone of disgust in the pit of my stomach." Jenna could understand the feeling because as of right now she mirrored it.
"I let paranoia get the best of me. To be honest, I've been scared since the day that you found out you were pregnant. I don't know what I would have done with myself, if you and Brady decide to stay together. Sadly watching my brother and the woman I love starting a family, it would have slowly killed me. After he left, I was given the chance to be with you. Still I held a fear of Brady changing his mind one day and taking you and Avery away from me. I don't think I could stand losing you."
