Chapter 2
Vanessa’s POV
A small shake to my shoulder made me open my eyes. There had be many shakes to my shoulder this morning but to be honest I couldn’t be bothered actually getting out of bed, but this time I needed to get out of bed as it was actually getting annoying now.
As I opened my eyes I saw my older brother grinning over me.
“Wakey wakey Ness,” He smiled.
“Go away Nathaniel,” I groaned pushing at his shoulder.
“Not happening,” He chuckled sitting on the edge of my bed.
I tried to push him off of the bed but he didn’t seem to want to budge. Sighing I threw my head back onto the pillow.
“You need to get down to the stables before you’re late,” He frowned.
“Fine,” I frowned.
He got up off of my bed still with a smile on his face, before he left my room. Sighing once again I got out of my bed and made my way to the bathroom with my clothes in my hand.
Nathaniel is two years older than me at twenty-one whereas I had just turned nineteen last month. We weren’t too close but nevertheless, we were relatively close.
I showered and then quickly got changed into some jogging bottoms, a tank top and trainers. Even though was what I wore when I worked at the stable, most of the time I would wear something similar on a day to day basis.
When I was dressed I made my way back to my room before pulling my long blond hair up into a messy bun, and putting on my black framed glasses. I didn’t need to use my glasses all the time but it was easier for me to see if I did have glasses and it stopped headaches.
I didn’t bother with makeup as I found it pointless, not only because I would end up ruining it at the stables, it was because I didn’t see why I should change myself.
Once I was ready, I hastily made my way down the stairs into the kitchen where my Mum and Brother sat at the table.
“Finally, we need to go Nessa,” Nate frowned, standing up.
“Bye Mum,” I smiled picking up my rucksack before making my way to the front door.
Nate left the hallway walking to his car and I followed. Although I was old enough to drive, I just had never learnt. Compared to everyone else I knew, I was behind everyone, I didn’t go to university, I barely got through college and I couldn’t drive.
I certainly wasn’t stupid but school wasn’t something I wanted to stay in. I’d rather be free and to find what I want to do, rather than being stuck with only one career path.
The drive to the stables wasn’t that long but his music choice wasn’t the best.
When we pulled up I got out and quickly made my way over to the office knowing that I was quite late.
I knew that today, all I needed to do was clean out the horses and groom them so it wouldn’t take that long. Being only about ten minutes late wouldn’t matter as my boss was fine with it and I didn’t have to do anything important.
Nate left straight away like he always did; he always dropped me off before he headed to work then one of my friends would pick me up afterwards.
By three o’clock my shift had finished so I grabbed my rucksack again before making my way to the familiar car that was parked out the front of the stables. I smiled as I opened up the door that led to the passenger seat and sat down next to my best friend.
“Hello,” I smiled.
“Hey, how was work?” he smiled in return.
“Not the best but it gets me money, so who cares,” I shrugged.
Caspar Lee had been my best friend for a long time. He was only older than me by about two months so we were the same age. He is originally from South Africa but now he lives in my hometown Brighton with one of our other friends Alfie. They had shared an apartment for a while now.
He had been picking me up from work for the last few months mainly because I couldn’t get home without his help.
Most of the time when he picked me up, he would take me back to his for a few hours, so we’d alternate who made dinner and get to spend time together. As I worked it was hard to spend a lot of time together, so the evenings were the best time.
Getting to his apartment it took longer than getting to the stables from my house as his apartment is a bit further away than my home.
When we got to his house we bother went upstairs to where his apartment was before going to lounge on the sofa. After a couple of minutes I went and showered as I was the most pleasant smelling thing in the world.
Once I was showered, I changed into the shorts and pink tank top I had packed into my rucksack, knowing I would have got dirty at work. I settled being barefooted as I didn’t see the point in putting on my mucky trainers again.
After the shower I made my way back to the living room where Caspar was setting up to make a video. He was quite a successful YouTuber and most of the time whilst I was here he would make a video to put on his YouTube channel.
“Making a video again?” I smiled sitting down in the armchair.
“Yes, I have one of my friends coming over so we can do collaboration. Is that okay?” he questioned.
I rolled my eyes; I didn’t even know why he asked. I didn’t like being in his videos but I liked watching him make them. Also I couldn’t wait to meet this said friend although I had probably met them before.
“Do I really have a choice, and why would I not want to?” I chuckled.
He chuckled as well as he set up his laptop to the camera. I was quite amazed how well he could make these videos as I was quite a technophobe. That was one of the few things that were absolutely different from what I knew and did to what he knew and did.
