Chapter 4

Vanessa’s POV

Caspar was finishing up with his set up for his YouTube video, and he forced me to go and make him tea. I didn’t particularly like tea, but he and his friend did. As the kettle boiled I sat on the work surface opening up the cookie jar and eating a biscuit.

I heard the doorbell ring and Caspar called to me that he was going to the door. As I finished making the cup of tea, I heard Caspar talking to his friend, who was clearly from London, due to his accent.

Once the tea was finished, I grabbed the two mugs and carried them back into the living room. As I walked in I saw Caspar sat on the sofa opposite a man who was probably our age or maybe slightly older with dark brown hair.

“Your tea is served,” I stated sarcastically placing the two mugs onto the coasters and taking a seat next to my best friend.

“What are you his maid?” The man chuckled.

“I wish, but sadly she’s one of my crazy fans, and I need to put her to work somehow,” Caspar chuckled.

I sent a glare at him. Although he was my best friend I hated him a lot of the time. I  didn't want to trade him for anyone in the world (well maybe Orlando Bloom or Nathaniel Buzolic or…) well there were lots of people I would trade him for but to be honest I didn’t see it happening anytime soon, but I was happy with my friend now.

“Don’t listen to him. I’m Vanessa, his best friend, no matter what else he says,” I chuckled putting my hand out for him to shake.

“I’m Jack,” He smiled shaking my hand.

“So you’re the YouTuber who is collaborating with him,” I stated.

To be honest I was very good with YouTubers. I knew a few like Alfie, Marcus, Zoe, Joe and Louise but that was just because I had met them numerous amounts of times but other than them, I hardly ever spoke to anyone in the YouTuber community.

I had obviously met others like Caspar and Alfie’s other friends, but not enough to really remember who they were, and this was definitely the first time I had met or even heard of Jack.

For the next ten minutes I simply sat in my seat hoping that I could get a word in edgewise but the two boys were busy talking.

“So shall we start this video?” Caspar questioned.

“Sure,” Jack stated.

I stood up from the sofa going to my safe haven of behind the camera. Jack also stood up sitting back down next to Caspar.

“So what are you doing in this video?” I questioned crossing my legs on the arm chair.

“The tin can challenge, which mean, Ness will you do us a favour?” My best friend smiled sweetly.

I rolled my eyes knowing it wasn’t really a question on whether I would do the favour, more go and do it now.

“What do you want?” I frowned.

“Can you go into my kitchen with these,” He stated handing me a bag of tin cans, “and on my side is more tins, and some post-it notes and a marker. Write 1- 12 on the tins and on the post-it notes before taking the labels off and bringing them back in. For once you will be in my video.”

Once again I rolled my eyes before heading into the kitchen taking off the labels and doing as I was told. Afterwards I carried them all back into the living room sitting them on the coffee table.

“Okay, Ness crouch behind the sofa and once we’ve done the introduction, we’ll say we have a special guest, then you’ll jump out saying hello and just stand in the background leaning on the back of the sofa,” He explained.

It seemed simple but I knew I’d screw it up somehow.

I crouched down in the place I had been told, whilst waiting for them to talk to the camera that they had just turned on.

“And today I have an even more special guest than Jack,” Caspar stated.

“Hello,” I grinned jumping up and waving my hands.

“Very, Malfie,” Jack chuckled.

I rolled my eyes as Caspar began to talk once again.

“This is my best friend Vanessa, who was lovely enough to set this up for us, and is going to be helping us throughout this tag,” He smiled.

Soon I found out why I was involved in this video; they couldn’t work a hand can opener so someone had to help them and it was easier for me to be in the video than having to edit it all out.

It took them a couple of takes on small bits but soon enough they both got their videos done, but they still needed editing later. Caspar couldn’t be bothered to pack up his camera so instead we all just sat down and talked.

“So Jack, are you from around here?” I questioned.

“No, I’m from London,” He shrugged.

“Are you staying here for a while or going straight back home?” I asked with a small smile.

I guess it would be nice if he was staying around here for a little while so that he could spend more time with Caspar, Marcus and Alfie (I presumed he knew the other two) and then I could get to know him.

God knows why I wanted to get to know him, but he seemed like a nice guy, and getting to know him would be nice.

I didn’t really have any friends as most of them were on their gap years and travelling around the world, but we weren’t the closest friends so we never kept contact. Caspar was obviously my best friend, and I was friends with Alfie and Marcus but that was basically it. I argued with basically everyone and no one got my humour or enjoyed my sarcasm, so it was hard to make friends.

“Yeah, I’m staying at Marcus Butler’s house for a while,” He shrugged.

Marcus coincidently was my next door but one neighbour and we lived about five minutes from Alfie and Caspar.

“Well that’s awesome, Marcus is my neighbour,” I smiled.

I knew for however long Jack would be here, I wanted to get to know him and be able to say he was my friend.
