Chapter 5

Emily’s POV

 ‘Could you meet me at the campus coffee place, you can give me my phone back.’ The owner of the phone texted. I replied with a sure and walked to the campus coffee place.

Charlie said she would meet me there in half an hour anyway. I entered the coffee place and ordered a latte macchiato. I took a seat and waited. I’m not really sure what I waited for. I didn’t even know what the person looked like.

Suddenly, I got a call with the phone I had to give back. The ringtone was a song from Volbeat. I wanted to answer, but I voice behind me said: ‘’Don't answer that.’’ I turned around and saw the guy that saved me from Michael.

‘’It’s you.’’ I said surprised. ‘’Emily, right. I remember you. well, I told you I would see you around.’’ The guy said. I think his name was Finn.

‘’It’s Finn, right?’’ I asked unsure. Finn nodded. ‘’Here’s your phone back.’’ I said and handed him his phone. ‘’Thanks.’’ Finn smiled.

‘’Can I have your number?’’ Finn asked out of the blue. ‘’How do I know you’re not a stalker.’’ I asked teasingly. ‘’You just handed me back my phone after you had it for almost a week. How could I be the stalker?’’ Finn asked.

‘’Hey, you forgot your phone, not me.’’ I said laughing. ‘’Give me that phone.’’ I said. Finn smiled and handed me his phone. I typed my number in his phone. ‘’Text me if you want.’’ I said.

‘’What’s happening here? I thought we were meeting here?’’ Charlie’s voice sounded behind me. I turned around. ‘’Who’s hottie over here?’’ Charlie asked, looking at Finn.

‘’This is the owner of the phone.’’ I explained to Charlie. ‘’Aah, so. When’s your date?’’ She asked. ‘’What date?’’ I asked confused. ‘’The date with this hottie.’’ Charlie said and looked pointedly at Finn.

‘’Uhm, I think I should go. I will see you around.’’ Finn said and quickly walked away. I looked at Charlie. ‘’Charlotte.’’ I said slowly.

I knew I was taking a risk with calling her Charlotte. She looked furiously. I knew I had to stay calm.

‘’Emily, I told you not to call me Charlotte.’’ Charlie said slowly. ‘’So, only you can get pissed. How could you say that about Finn!’’ I shouted.

‘’Em, do you even know who that is?’’ Charlie asked. ‘’That’s Finn.’’ I said calmly. ‘’Dude, that’s Finn Harries!’’ Charlie said excited. ‘’Finn Harries, cool. You know his surname. How do you know his surname?’’ I said quickly.

‘’He’s the other half of JacksGap!’’ Charlie said. ‘’JacksGap?’’ Charlie gasped. ‘’You don't know JacksGap?’’ She asked. I shook my head. ‘’So you don’t know this? Finn, Finn the better twin. Jack, Jack the cheeky chap!’’ Charlie sung excited.

‘’Charlie, we’re 19. Why would I know that?’’ I asked. ‘’JacksGap is a channel on YouTube. They’re amazing.’’ Charlie said. ‘’So, you actually have time to watch YouTube videos?’’ I asked. That sounded weird.

‘’I’ll show you sometime. Now, let’s get that coffee.’’ Charlie said. I smiled as we got in the line to order.

Sometimes I wondered if my parents missed me. Well, more my dad. I also wondered if my brothers even remembered me. I hadn’t spoke Ben and Oliver for over a year.

Charlie was going home and I was left alone in this stupid dorm room. I met a few people, but they weren’t really friends. I was also really scared I would see Michael again. He scared the shit out of me and I really didn’t want to see him ever again.

Sometimes I saw Finn and he would talk to me. Most of the time, his friends were there and they would make weird comments.

Now, I was alone. I was playing a game on my phone. Temple run. Boring. I know. I was just so bored I didn’t know what to do anymore.

I got a call. It interrupted my game, I looked who it was. Oliver. So, he did remember me.

I answered with a dull hi. ‘’Emily!’’ Oliver said. ‘’Don’t ‘Emily!’ me. I hadn’t spoken to you for over a year!’’ I exclaimed. ‘’I know,  I know. I just had a question.’’ Oliver said. ‘’So, what do you want?’’ I asked fiercely.

‘’Could you babysit Kim? Me and Lana really need to go to this event and our babysitter called off just an hour ago. We don't know who to call...’’ Oliver trailed off.

‘’Oliver, I’m at a Uni. In Leeds.’’ I said. ‘’I didn’t know that.’’ Oliver mumbled. ‘’Of course you didn’t know that!’’ I shouted. ‘’You have your own little family now. You never call me or Jared. Mom was getting worse. I’m glad I left!’’ I exclaimed.

‘’Emily-‘’ I cut him off. ‘’No, you don't understand. You and Lana got married, got Kim and after that you never called. Now, you called me for a favour. How could you treat family like that!’’ I said and hung up. I was so done with family. Ben never called. He was in Washington. Working for the ‘Government’ or crap like that.

I just hated the situation. It didn’t feel like family anymore. When Jared called, it always was to say he missed me. Ben and Oliver never called. Dad always forgot to call and when mom called, I ignored it.

I sighed. I needed to get outside. I was already more than 12 hours in this dorm and not just to sleep. I grabbed my phone and some ear buds. Music would relax me.

I walked outside to where the grass was. My birthday was last week. I was finally 20. Charlie’s birthday was in a couple of weeks, so she would be 20 too.

I just laid down on the grass, listening to Young The Giant. I closed my eyes and soaked up some sun. Not that I was trying to tan, but I always liked to warmth of the sunshine.

I felt someone touch my hand and I quickly opened my eyes. It was Finn, he was on his own. No friends in sight.

I yanked one ear bud out of my ear. ‘’Hi.’’ I said. Finn sat down next to me. ‘’Hey. What are you doing here on your own?’’ He asked. ‘’Ooh, you know. Just enjoying the warmth of the sun.’’ I said vaguely.

‘’Not going home?’’ Finn asked. I shook my head. ‘’My parents live in London. If I would go with the train, it would still take three hours to get there.’’ I said. ‘’Ooh, I know. My parents live in London too.’’ Finn said.

‘’Charlie said something about JacksGap. What’s the deal about that?’’ I asked nonchalantly. ‘’My twin brother Jack started that channel when he took a Gap year. He was telling the subscribers about his week. Now, he’s bigger than that. Doing challenges and collabs with other YouTubers.’’ Finn explained.

‘’That’s cool. Are you in the videos?’’ I asked. Finn nodded. ‘’Yeah, I’ve met a lot of YouTubers because Jack wanted me in the videos.’’ Finn said. I just nodded. I never watched many YouTube videos.

‘’So, why are you here? In Leeds and not in London or something?’’ Finn asked. ‘’I wanted to get away from home.’’ I just said. Finn nodded.

‘’I get it.’’  He just said. I laid back down and put the ear bud back in my ear. I didn’t want to talk about home anymore. It was enough for a day. I hated to fact Oliver and Ben both forgot my birthday and when mom called she was telling she got a letter from the Uni I was failing Italian.

What did she expected? That I would get straight A’s? No. I got B’s and C’s. If she thought that was failing. I didn’t care. I was just glad I had a C+ in Italian. She didn’t get a letter home that I was failing. No, the Uni send her my marks. That’s all.

I felt myself slowly drifting off in a slumber. I just hoped I wouldn’t get burned by the sun.
