Rubin the fox was toying with a butterfly, belly up, legs in the air. She was determined to pass time. Pax would be there any minute for their game. Rubin was a somewhat pretty fox, with black streak of fur across her right eye. The rest of her was red with white paws. Her eyes were a brilliant shade of blue and gray. Her den beside her was relatively small, and only contained her ball. This particular ball is very important to her. Thirsty, she went in search of water behind her den. She gulped a few mouthfuls and looked at her reflection.
"Do you you always have to sneak up on me?" She asked Pax. He had shown up in the reflection. He had a black line of fur down his back, the rest red. His eyes were green and gray.
"Why, of course I do! How will you learn to stay on guard?" He answered. Rubin rolled her eyes.
"I was ready! I could see you coming a mile away!"
"Uh-huh. I see. So why did you -ahem- 'pretend' to not notice me?"
"Can we just play already?"
"Finally! Who goes first?" He asked. Rubin ran into the forest surrounding them.
"You!" She yelled back. Pax chuckled and closed his eyes.

Rubin moved quickly through the forest. Left, right, right, left, stop! What a big tree! Up she went, climbing to the nearest branch, and laid on top, smirking.

"20!" Pax called out. He turn to where he heard footsteps. "Here I come!" He called. He snuck through the forest, looking for any sign of noise. He scanned the ground and sniffed the air. Oh? Is that anticipation he smelled? His eyes changed to a bright shade of yellow. He followed the scent. Left, right, right, left, stop! This tree had Rubin's scent on it. He looked around the base and saw...nothing. Hmm. Aha! Above! He looked up, and there she was, smiling down at him. "Gotcha!" He exclaimed. She pounced on him, pinning him on the ground.
"You cheated!" She yelled. Pax shook his head defiantly.
"Nuh-uh!" He yelled back. They wrestled on the ground. Soon, Pax was pinning Rubin.
"Admit defeat, Rubin!" He demanded.
"Never!" She kicked him off and sat on him. "You're the one who's defeated! By my ass!" She shouted. A branch snapped somewhere close by. They sat up quickly and looked in the direction. A coyote. He could see its tail behind a tree. Their eyes changed black. Pax was scared. He smelled the excitement of a hunt.
