That night, Pax curled up with Rubin, giving off the warmth she desires. Rubin enjoyed it, and pushed up close. Sleep was easy and comfortable.
Pax awoke first, and watched Rubin for a while. He observed her steady breathe and the way she curled up.
Alright, time to try something, He thought. Pax took one last fleeting look at Rubin and walked out the entrance.Rubin was in an odd spot of the forest. It was just all around unfamiliar. Rubin began to walk, looking for anything recognizable. Nope nope nope. Nothing, but what's that sound? It was really low at first, but now its really loud. She looked for the source. Behind trees, under rocks, in bushes. Wait, one last bush to check. She peered over and gasped. It was Pax, but he was with another girl. They were kissing behind the bush. Rubin stumbled back. How could he? Didn't he know she was working up the courage to ask him out? This is an outrage! Pax and the girl peered over the bush and snickered. Rubin cried. Stop laughing, dammit! They laughed harder. Which only made her crying worse. STOP! She rushed over for vengeance, but they disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
Rubin awoke with a start. What a terrible dream. She wiped the tears on her face. Pull it together, She told herself. Suddenly, she realized Pax was missing. She sat up. Yep, definitely gone. She walked to the bedroom entrance. Pax's paw print was on the door. Hmmm. It continued outside. She followed the trail. It led up the hill back to the pond. The ground covered in pulled up grass. Soft. Pax was at the edge of the pond. He turned his head and grinned.
"I knew you'd show up." He told her. She sat down next to him and looked out at the pond.
"What are you doing here?" She asked. Pax continued to look at the pond.
"This is were I go to think." He answered. Rubin looked at him.
"Then what are you thinking of?" She asked. Pax looked at her this time.
"I'm thinking of kissing you now." He whispered. Their eyes burst pink. Pax moved closer, and Rubin waited with bated breathe. She closed her eyes and puckered up. It didn't come. Huh? She opened an eye. Splash! Pax pushed her in the lake. She surfaced quickly.
"You ass!" She screamed. Pax winked. "Ugh!" She got out and shook. Pax tackled her on the grass. He landed on top.
"Hi." He whispered. Rubin stayed silent. She had never seen Pax's eyes this pink before. The glow was enchanting. Pax leaned in. This time his eyes were closed. Rubin leaned up and --- The hell? A earsplitting sound came. They sat up. It was getting even louder. The water was rippling and the ground was vibrating. It continued to get louder. Pax looked to the other side of the lake. Some trees were falling. BOOM! It fell. BAM! Others fell too. All around them trees were falling. CRASH! Rubin jumped back. One had fallen too close. Pax looked were it had collapsed. Yellow monsters were tearing down all the trees like toothpicks! Humans were controlling them. BAM! BOOSH! CRACK! They were tearing it down so quickly it was hard to keep up with! The human nearest spotted them. He laughed something to the others and sped towards them.
"RUN RUBIN!" Pax screamed. Rubin didn't need to be told twice. The monster chased after them and they ran back down the trail to their home, their eyes black. The human laughed as they fought to keep ahead. How unexpected it was, but Rubin could have sworn she saw these humans before. No matter, the monster was still their tail. They couldn't run much longer, the pain was becoming too great. Fortunately, the monster stopped chasing them, and went back. Pax stopped and panted on the ground. Rubin helped him up.
"Cmon," She told him, "We've got to get out of this forest." Pax nodded, and they fast walked home. Rubin picked up her ball, and Pax ate berries off the bush outside. Rubin quickly joined him for their last meal from this forest. They traveled to the edge of the forest. This way, they could jump on one of the moving machines that fly down the trail. The forest behind them was almost completely gone now. The monsters have not stopped yet. Their home has been torn apart right before their eyes. And they were almost killed by one! Pax licked Rubin's tears. She still cried, though quieter now. They continued to wait for a machine. Pax grew impatient. For some reason they just wouldn't come. Rubin perked her ears up. There's one, She thought. She was right. A machine was coming down this trail. Not very fast, just enough to make them run a little. When it passed, Pax took off behind it, and Rubin followed in pursuit. As Pax had gotten on first, he was able to help Rubin, and they sat in the space provided by the machine. They laid down inside and caught their breathe. The road here was bumpy, and Pax was almost thrown out the back. But he landed back in and was careful not to be thrown again. They looked out the back and watched their home, still being destroyed, disappear, wondering were to next.
