It was only until the sun began to set that I realised how long I had been sat on the rock in front of the rugged, desolate building. It was then that I also realised that I didn’t know where I was. I stood up, looked around and decided that the only way to find my way back was to fly. So for the second time that day I spread my wings and flew high over the tree tops.
After soaring over a small wood I began to recognise the cobbled street of Diagon alley and the moving statue of Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes. I swooped down in front of the shop, landed on two feet and strode in, avoiding contact with the people in the shop. Today I didn’t know if I could deal with it. I hurriedly pushed the button on the lift at the back of the shop and let it take me to the flat, as I entered the flat my emotions took over. I tugged off the heels, threw them across the room and crumpled in a heap on the floor, sobbing. I felt the tears pouring through my fingers, my heart weighing a brick in my chest and every inch of my body went numb.
Suddenly a familiar voice cried “Athena!” A pair of arms wrapped around my shaking body “What’s wrong?”
I lifted my head to see Ginny looking into my tear- stained face; she began to stroke my hair.
“S-Sam” I spluttered.
“Oh yes” Ginny said soothingly “George said you had a date with him”
I began to sob harder “It’s not a date when he already has a girlfriend” I buried my head in my hands; I never broke down like this, what was happening to me?
I heard Ginny gasp “Oh honey, I know you liked him”
I laughed a false laugh “Liked? It was more than that” I was falling apart “God I sound so stupid!”
“Hey, no you don’t!” she soothed “Just let it all out”
I wasn’t going to make a fool of myself any further, I sat up and wiped my eyes “No, that’s all the tears I’ll shed for him”
Ginny looked at me smiling “That’s the spirit; he doesn’t deserve you if he doesn’t realise how amazing you are!”
I laughed at her enthusiasm, Ginny seemed to be the kind of person that, no matter what her problems were, she would put somebody else’s first. I loved that about her.
I stood up and retrieved my shoes “I’ll go and clear myself up, back in a minute” I smiled, noticing that I had left a wet patch on the shoulder of Ginny’s shirt.
I walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. My hair was like a bird’s nest on top of my head and my eyes were puffed up and red, I leant over the sink and splashed some cool water on my face letting the droplets slide off my cheeks. Looking back into the mirror I dried my face and ran a brush through my hair, “Pull yourself together Athena” I muttered under my breath.
I walked back into the kitchen to find Ginny leaning against the breakfast bar. “You can’t have just come here to find me crying” I said “You must have come for a reason”
Ginny’s face suddenly burst into a beam “Yeh, I’ve got some news”
I looked at her questionably.
“Harry proposed!” she exclaimed and, if it were possible, her smile got even bigger.
I gasped and gave her a hug “That’s amazing! And there I was making you listen to my petty problems!”
“Oh they weren’t petty” she whispered kindly.
“You should have just said; that’s amazing news!” I began to smile with her; at least two people I care about had found love.
“That’s not the best bit though” she laughed cheekily “I want you to be one of my bridesmaids, with Luna and Hermione”
“Of course!” I squealed “Let’s plan a wedding!”
We ended up jumping up and down like teenage girls, laughing about dress choices and colour schemes. Ginny stopped “I’ve got to go back to the Burrow and talk to Harry” she gave me one last hug and ran off into the lift, smiling and waving happily.
Once the doors had closed, my smile closed with it. She had just got what I had been wishing for, love from the man she cared for most.
A/N: Sorry, this is just a bit of a filler chapter. I admit it's not very interesting but it should (hopefully) build the base for the rest of the story. Again I'd love to hear you ideas and any improvements that are needed. Thanks for reading :)
