Marco looked at the digital clock that was angled towards him on his nightstand.
10:30 it read in bold green font.
Normally, Marco would be having a hernia at the opportunity to go on a date with Jackie Lynn Thomas; I mean, he's had a crush on the cool kid since they were in kindergarten for goodness sakes!! This has got to be beyond exciting for him!!!!

Except... it wasn't.
Why wasn't it?

"Marco!!" Star started bouncing excitedly towards the boy.
"Are you excited about your date??!! It's almost time for your date!!!! HURRY UP DON'T BE LATE FOR YOUR DATE WITH JACKIE!!!" The alien girl squealed as she grabbed Marcos hands, making him jump up & down with her.

"Woohoo!" The boy replied, only somewhat as enthused as Miss Mewni, the half-assed response making Star furrow her eyebrows at the young male.

"I'm really excited star, just a little nervous," Marco lied through his teeth, as to not concern the princess.
"Alrighty then, i should probably get going!" Marco said, grabbing his house key, wallet and phone, being sent off with Star frantically waving her arms towards him in an enthusiastic farewell, only stopping when she could no longer see him.

As Marco began to walk, Stars voice yelling 'have fun on your date!!! bye!!! bye-bye!!!!' finally out of ear shot, he plugged in his headphones, putting both earbuds in and putting a playlist he titled "calming" on, shoving his phone and his hands into his pockets. His mind began to walk along with him; and then to briskly jog, and then his mind began to full on race.
'I've loved this girl since kindergarten, why am i not as stoked about this date like I thought I would be all those years? Why have my feelings changed after so long? If I don't love Jackie Lynn Thomas, who do I love?'

It hit him like a bat.

'Wait, wait wait waitwait. SINCE WHEN???? Why????? Seriously, though, why THEM OF ALL PEOPLE??!!??'

And then,
there he was.

And there she was.

An image that would take away anyones breath; Jackie was sitting on a park bench, one leg on the ground one leg set on top of the other like a halfway criss-cross-apple-sauce, her head turned a bit to the side and the wind blowing her hair out of her porcelain face, yet still framing her piercing eyes and freckled skin beautifully.

"Jackie."

She turned her head, shining a sweet smile at Marco. Despite them still being out of earshot of each other, Marco had caught the corner of her eye from the distance.

"I don't love you any more."
