As I walked home from school I was thinking about what I will do when I get home. I had a bit of homework and Sara asked if I could go to the mall with her. I told her yes, even though I had so much to do and really wasn't in the mood. Probably because I still felt bad for lashing out at her before, besides we always had fun when we went to the mall together.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even notice the black BMW that pulled up next to me until I heard a familiar voice.

"What are you thinking about now?" James asked me from his car. I turned my head and couldn't help but smile. "Not you this time." I said "I have a lot of homework and Sara asked me if I can go to the mall with her. And I honestly have no patience."

"So why are you going?" He asked "just make something up."

" I can't do th-" I started but he cut me off.

"Get in the car, I'll drive you home. We'll talk on the way."

I went around the car to get in the seat next to him. "Thanks." I said as I buckled my seat belt.

"No problem." He said, brushing off my thanks. "Before you continue, just listen to me Katy!"

Before I could say anything else he began. "I think you take too much time caring about other people and not worrying about yourself. You have to think about your feelings too. If you want to do homework and then get some sleep, you should! You can't always do what pleases everyone else." He said.

We were left in silence as I thought about what he said. I was looking out my window, but I knew he was looking at me. I turned around to find that I was right, he was looking at me. He kept on glancing from the road and to me, obviously to see what my reaction would be to his words.

"That's just the way I am." I explained softly, " I don't like hurting people. I feel when I say no, especially to my best friend, I'm hurting her."

I know your probably thinking that I am a softy and I don't ever say no but trust me I do! But I admit that I really try to make my friends happy by not saying no to them. Not because I'm afraid they'll leave me and won't talk to me, but because most of the time I don't mind.

We pulled into my driveway about a minute later I had my hand on the door handle and was about to open the door when I felt him take my chin in his hands and turn my head so that I was facing him. Now I was looking straight into his deep blue eyes. He looked extremely attractive now. He had a concerned expression on his face. But as I said before I didn't like him like that so I pushed that out of my mind. "Sometimes No is all someone needs to hear, Katy." He said softly "promise me you will try to think about your own feelings." He said it as more of a demand, but I nodded anyways. Slowly, he moved his hand down to my thigh and rubbed it gently

"Good," he said "I'll see you tomorrow. And text me if you need something." I got out of the car and looked at him through the window. I could see in his eyes he really meant what he said. He really cared.

Which made me think-

never mind I told myself, it's impossible!

"Thanks for the ride, and for everything else." I said

He just smiled at me, and said "don't worry about it." With that I turned around towards my house. As I walked up the front steps I found my key and unlocked the front door. I slipped inside but before I closed it I saw James drive off, knowing he waited until I was inside and safe. I couldn't help but smile to myself, I closed the door softly. I was about to head up the stairs to my room to do homework and find an excuse to get out of going to the mall. Just then I heard my mom coming out of the kitchen.

"Hey Katy!" She exclaimed. "How was your day at school?"

"Hi mom, it was good!" I said I guess I must've sounded upset.

"What's the matter Katy?" She asked, concerned. My mom and I got along pretty well, I thought she was a pretty cool mom. I really didn't have trouble telling her what's going on in my life because usually she didn't give me a hard time, obviously if she agreed to it. If she didn't agree she would let me know, trust me!

"I told Sara I would go to the mall with her." I told her, "but I really don't want to. I have so much homework and I'm so tired."

"So tell her that, she's your best friend, she'll understand." My mom answered. "And besides we are having the neighbors over for dinner so I need you to be home."

"Ok." I replied, as I ran up the stairs, I was relieved and annoyed at the same time. I had a great excuse to tell Sara but I had no patience for company. Whatever, right now I just needed to do my homework and call Sara.
