"Well we are but..." Tony started

"But what spit it out Stark!" I said

"Well let's just say you two aren't the only ones getting up close and personal with each other tonight!" He replied chuckling

"Ahem what are you saying stark...us up close and personal how much scotch have you had tonight?" Nat said uneasily

I coughed awkwardly and rub the back of my neck.
Tony looks at me for a second before continuing cheekily

"Yes agent Romanoff you scarlet cheeks and st- stuttering say otherwise."

"Enough flirting you two before I lose my appetite" I said walking into the restaurant.

"Who said we were flirting!?" Nat protested

"Yeah newsflash grandpa its called arguing flirting is way different!" Tony continued

"Whatever helps you sleep at night stark!" I call out to him as I sit down

"Whatever Rogers I'm gonna go get us some drinks" he says over his shoulders

Nat smiles wryly as she takes the seat farthest away from me.

"What's wrong agent Romanoff? I don't bite" I say seductively

Nat frowns.

"Again with the flirting! For gods sake Steven your engaged!" She says

"So I'm not married yet!" I reply calmly

"Yes, so your not married being engaged you're committing yourself to one woman Rogers! You know what that means?" She continued angrily

"Enlighten me." I challenged

"It means your banned from the babe pool." Tony said returning to the table

I glare at him

"Sorry I couldn't help but overhear your playful banter. Now who wants some scotch!" he said cheerfully

"There wasn't any banter of any sort." Nat grumbled

"And it certainly wasn't playful" I added rolling my eyes

"Oh sassy are we Rogers?" Nat said smirking

"What is with you? Its like you're bipolar! Its like you have trust issues! What are you afraid of anyone breaking down your walls? Yes you are! Because the. It would give you a weakness just like everyone else, gosh its like you we're trained not to feel anything and express no emotions" I say malice slipping into my voice

" you're right." I hear her say quietly her voice thick with emotion.

Realizing what I said, and how it affected her I try to apologize but its in vain. she won't even look up but I can tell by the way she's grabbed fistfuls of the white linen table cloth her eyes are glazed with unshed tears.
Sure enough two wet spots bloom on the table cloth as her jaw clenched

" I'm sorry but I need to get out of here!" She says before she gets up and leaves the restaurant without a second glance.

"Nice going cap!" Tony mumbles getting up

"How is any of this my fault?" I ask indignantly

"Never mind steve. All I was trying to do was get things back to the way they were before Nat left, when we all were like one big messed up family." He said throwing a few bills on the table.

"But it was my mistake, we're not much of a family anymore, not even that close of friends." He continued ruefully

"You're wrong there stark we're still great friends! That never changed" I retorted standing up.

" are we Steve are we really? When was the last time you saw banner? Nat just got back and you already drove her away. You really think we're still as close as we use to be?" Tony said looking at me pointedly

"All I know is that we supposed have each others backs no matter what!" I say calmly

"Well in that case, I didn't want to be the bearer of bad news but you fiancée is here with her dinner date, and they seem to be... How did my old man put it? Ah yes 'fondue-ing' "He said making air quotes as he said 'fondue-ing'.

"Seriously stark I'm not in the mood for jokes" I said gritting my teeth.

"Oh this is not a joke Rogers why don't you call your precious fiancée and see what she's up to!" He casually said over his shoulder as he began to walk away.

"She wouldn't, she's not like that!" I say catching up to tony before he left.

"No, Peggy wasn't like that. What's-her-face is and I've got proof!" Tony said

"I don't believe you."

"Didn't expect you to." He replied nonchalantly as he got into his car.

" but when you realise, and you will. you know where to find me. Ciao!" He continued before driving off into the night.

I don't know how long I stood outside the restaurant thinking one thing: "how could one night end up going so wrong?"
I looked up when I heard a familiar giggle

"Ooh Austin!! What do you say we hnngfsghkon" I heard her voice turn into a whisper as she began to whisper sweet nothings into his ear.

"Sorry Sharon not tonight, I've got to get you home..." The man named Austin replied detaching Sharon from himself

"Oh alright boo bear but next time mmkay?" I hear her slur.

It takes everything not to turn around and punch the guy. I briskly turn and whistle for a taxi.

"Avenger's tower! And step on it!"
