After wondering around Brooklynfor a half an hour, they finally found a taxi service that could take them to long island.

That evening, Tom sat stoaring out the window of the cab. He had been very quiet since the run in with Sadie and Carter. As far as Arianna knew he hadn't been hurt so much as startled and maybe a little bruised.

But she was worried about him all the same.

"Hey. What's the matter?" She questioned. "You've been acting weird since the bus station."

He looked at her with a look of absolute misery. "I failed." He said plainly before turning back to the window.

"Come on. The grass in that field can't be that interesting! What did you fail?"

"Look! I failed. I was supposed to protect you! I don't think letting you saving me from crazed Hecate kid fits the bill. Even before that. You have saved me every time something happened." He was practically yelling. The cab driver looked at him funny. They passed a line of trees and there was a huge, luscious strawberry field. Tom looked at her one more time before making the driver stop.

As Arianna got out she pulled a wad of cash from her backpack and handed it to the driver.

"Keep the change."

Then she started walking up the hill towards a big pine tree. When they got to the crest of the hill, Arianna looked down and saw a large house Tom called the Big House. Real creative.

The taxi was gone, and with it her last hope of returning home.

Oh well. She thought no turning back now anyways.

And she turned and walked down the hill towards the big house.

When she neared the bottom, a crowd of kids, most slightly older than her, gathered around started asking questions. "Who are you?" "Where are you from?" "Where did you get your spear?" And even "Is your godly parent your mom or your dad?"

She just stared at them shock not sure what to say. Tom tried to push and shove and make a path for her through the throng but the kids wouldn't let them through.

Suddenly a voice yelled from the back of the group.

"Okay! Let the poor girl breath! You all know how overwhelming the first day is. Let's try not not to make it worse." All the kids stopped and formed a path and a blind girl who looked like she was about 16 stepped through.

A big burly girl stepped out of the crowd in a challenging way.

"What's it to you Annie?" She spat.

The blond girl just stared at her. "Clarrise. Move." They had a short state down but the blond girl apparently won. The big girl who must have been Clarisse stepped aside and the other girl turned to her.

Arianna saw that the girl's eyes were startlingly grey, making the girl look beautiful but scary and smart all at once. But the girl smiled and held out her hand.

"Hi. I'm Annabeth."

"M- my name is A-Arianna." She shook Annabeth hand.

"Nice to meet you Arianna. I need you to come with me to the big house." Unsure what to say, Arianna followed her towards the cabin and whatever awaited her. Tom followed cautiously behind, looking nervous.

When they got to the big house, Annabeth didn't even both to knock. She just marched right in pulling Arianna behind her.

Inside there was decorated room that she supposed could pass for a living room. Probably the oddest thing about the room was the stuffed leopards head on the wall.

Annabeth hadn't stopped so Arianna had to keep up by almost running.

Finally they moved into what looked like a rec room. An odd assortment of people were gathered around a pool table.

There was a big buff boy, a small, pretty girl, a boy who was sipping a diet coke, a tall boy who appeared to be pickpoketing  a girl with flowers randomly blossoming around her. There was several others as well as a few satyrs and a man in a wheelchair.

And they all stopped what they were doing to look directly at her.

Arianna wasn't sure what to say. Should she introduce herself, or just walk in and join the group or should she ask someone to pass her the snacks or- or who knows!

Annabeth just walked right in and took her place at the table right beside the man in the wheelchair. She leaned over and whispered something in his ear.

The man looked intently at Arianna like he wanted to say something but instead he turned back to the kids.

"You are all dismissed. And Clarrisse," he turned to the girl who had challenged Annabeth outside, "organize a border patrol to make sure nothing followed her. Don't leave the camp. Go!"

Everyone filed out of the room giving Arianna odd looks.

When they all left, Annabeth turned to the man. "Chiron, this is Arianna. The new camper Tom brought in." Chiron nodded to the blond before turning back to Arianna.

"Who are you?" He questioned looking angry.

She was baffled. "Annabeth said already. I- I'm Arianna Brooke Candice." She didn't know why he wanted the same answer twice but oh well. But then somthing clicked.

"Chiron." She said thinking out loud. "Chiron from the old stories. The one who trained heros, right?"

He nodded solemly.

"But aren't you supposed to be-"

"A centaur? Yes. I usually wear the wheel chair so that I don't scare the new kids. However,it would also make it hard to maneuver indoors half horse, wouldn't it?"

"I suppose it would." She replied. She could see the logic in that.

"Now,"  he stated "We need to get down to business. Do you have any idea if your godly parent is your mom or your dad, by any chance?"

Arianna only shook her head. She had no idea.

"You have a strong aura about you but I can't place it." She turned to Tom who had come in with another man in a Hawaiian shirt with a diet coke in his hand.
"You are sure about her?"

Tom nodded "She is a demigod. But she smells different than any demigod I've ever met. Mr. D?"

The man in the Hawaiian shirt was staring at his drink like in was worth more of his time  than she was. "Yes, yes, very nice. Good to meet you Amelia."

"Actually, it's Arianna. Not Amelia." She said irritated. How can he be that dumb? The man just glared at her, obviously annoyed. He and Chiron started talking and Annabeth leaned over and whispered

"Don't mind Mr. D. I have been here since I was seven and he still doesn't care to get my name right. Gods don't care." Arianna looked at her trying to figure her out. Why would a girl come here when she was seven?

She tuned in just in time to hear Chiron say "Take her to cabin eleven. We will have to wait and see if she gets claimed. Arianna, how old are you?"

"I turned 13 yesterday." She said not sure why it was important.

"I thought so. Demigod often start to get there powers around  12 or 13. Go with Annabeth, she will show you to your cabin."

Annabeth left and she started to follow but stopped and looked back. "Mr. Chiron, sir?" He looked back at her "There were these people in Brooklyn. They called me a magician. What does that mean? They asked me if I had a little voice in my head. They seemed to know magic of some sort. Do you know who they are?"

Chiron and Mr. D exchanged glances. "It shouldn't be anything to worry about dear." His face, however, said something completely different.

She wanted to question him but she felt Annabeth tugging her sleeve and she got the sense that Mr. D was not an enemy she wanted to have.

So she turned and left the basement with more questions than answers and more answers than friends.
