« in which they collide, again. »
[Shortest chapter.]
''Hey'', he said casually.
''AHHHH!'' Harlyn screamed when Sebastian reappeared beside her, in the passenger seat of her car. Her car made a large S on the empty road before she gained control back. ''WHAT THE FUCK SEBASTIAN I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR – ''
''I'm sorry Harlyn! Chill out!'' He apologized quickly.
She kept silent, her thoughts drowned by her very loud heartbeat. They finally arrived the hospital.
''Your heart stopped,'' she spoke. ''And you were gone for a while...They probably brought you back, but who knows for how long?''
''Okay, so what's the plan? ''
She looked at him and stopped walking. They were in the lobby of the hospital, but no one was there, not even the lady behind the counter.
''Focus on me Sebastian. When we get there. Focus on me, and find in me what you've lost and go back to your body.''
He simply nodded.
|| I drove by all the place we used to hang out getting wasted. I thought about our last kiss, how it felt, the way you tasted. And even though your friends tell me you're doing fine. Are you somewhere feeling lonely, even though he's right beside you? ||
''Come on, let's do this. Let's bring your soul back to your body!'' She started running in the hospital corridors in direction of his room. She would have pulled on his hands, if he would have been made out of solid atoms. But he was just a projection of his physical state.
'Wait.. Harlyn...'' He called. She turned on her heels to face him. Her brows knitted in confusion, as she waited for him to continue. He took a deep breath. ''What if... What if I don't remember you when I wake up?''
|| When he says those words to hurt you, do you read the ones I wrote you? Sometimes I start to wonder, was it just a lie? If what we had was real, how could you be fine? 'Cause I'm not fine at all. ||
She smiles a sad smile. That's when he knew that she had already thought about it, but was ready to sacrifice what they had, and everything they shared, for him to see his family again. ''I guess I'll have to live with it,'' she sighed, her voice really low. ''It's not as if I could just explain everything to you. I don't think you would believe me, '' she chuckled sadly. ''Man, I wouldn't even believe myself,'' she finished. Her eyes were locked on the ground. In that moment, he wished that he could hold her, and hold on to her at the same time, really be there. Harlyn was doing her very best to stop the tears that were threatening to spill out of her sockets.
|| I remember the day you told me you were leaving. I remember the makeup running down your face. And the dreams you left behind you didn't need them. Like every single wish we ever made. ||
He just nodded. It seemed reasonable, made some sense. Typical Harlyn, really. But it was far from what he had in mind.
''Listen to me – '' his projection started to fade, slowly. ''I want you to tell me about my childhood's favorite place, it was a huge tree. It was my Wonderland. I used to escape home all the time to go there. Nobody knows about it except me...Even my Ma' doesn't know. I'll believe you – and then tell me our story – '' he was barely visible by know, Harlyn started to panic and run in direction of his hospital room. They couldn't unplug him, not now, not when they were so close – if they had just taken the damn car instead of a bike – please – no ...
''Tell me our story.''
The words echoed in the corridor, people passing by and not hearing it, as Harlyn continued to run.
|| I wish that I could wake up with amnesia, and forget about the stupid little things. Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you. And the memories I never can escape. 'Cause I'm not fine at all. ||
When she pushed the door to his room, it was as if chaos as broke in. His mother was sobbing in a corner, and doctors were surrounding him. Harlyn immediately moved in direction of Mrs Stan, and held her in her arms. The mother of the actor held her back. That's when the comic book writer noticed for the first time ever a tall man, who seemed to be worrying a lot too. She guessed it was Sebastian's step dad.
''Give me 10 more volts. 1, 2, 3.''
From where she was, she could only see his chest raised up in the air by the electric force. She had to be strong.
Please, please, come back...
''Excuse ma'am, you'll have to leave the room.''
After fighting the people off, Mrs Stan finally calmed down when Harlyn started to speak to her. But before they could make it out of the room, somebody spoke.
''His eyes are opened.''
Both Harlyn and Mrs Stan ran in direction of the bed. His mother took one of his hand, despite the blood that was covering him, and starting thanking every possible God known to mankind yet, and the doctors too.
Harlyn was more hesitant, she didn't know if he would remember her. But she stood there, observing him, made of flesh, and alive. She started to silently cried, and covered her face in hope no one, even though the room was full, would notice her.
''Harlyn?'' A very hoarse called her.
And she met his eyes.
''You... you remember me?'' She asked, crying all the more.
He simply nodded, smiling despite all the tubes.
|| If today I woke up with you right beside me, like all of this was just some twisted dream. I'd hold you closer than I ever did before. And you'd never slip away, and you'd never hear me say...||
